trimming the displayed url in forum, comment etc

When someone includes a long url in a thread/comment post it causes the width of the page to get real wide and made website theme look ugly......
I have seen in other website that long url's are truncated....
how to do that in XOOPS ?

something like

www.yousite.com/7&topic_id=59410&viewmode.....dfsf

i hope if this is unavailable i hope it will be consider to be include in the next release of forum modules or in the next XOOPS core
