HI!

It looks BAD as I am sick. I am sure I wont be able to get things done in the next couple of days as there would be a big pile of work waiting for me.

However, my next step is to play with the demos and show other people here and they are waiting for it too. Hence it has to be done urgently as soon as I can start walking again.

Hallo!

To have different Portals you do not need three versions.

You need different themes and this should be possible to install with this Module.

You simply need to share the related SET OF tables, like Groups Set, User Set of tables, as mentioned in the other threads.

And then simply use different themes for each site.

The hole idea of this mode is to have one installation for three portals using different themes.

Thats so far as I have understood, but not yet installed.

As mentioned, I shall be iunstalling a demo in a few days for someone and you can have a look then how it works.

I saw this here:

the following:

We have already started the planning of XOOPS 2.4, so be comfortable knowing that whatever concerns that arise in the next weeks will be taken into consideration when developing XOOPS 2.4 - and of course, really big issues will be dealt with as swiftly as possible. - Posted by Mithrandir on 2005/7/27 11:16:35

I am quite new to this area and have not seen the pace between the versions. As this has the following:

- Use configuration categories

This feature is very important. To make changes at a later date is a nightmare. I have already posted a post on Global Categories...

https://xoops.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?forum=11&topic_id=38737

Hence this version is very attractive...I was wondering, how does it usually go, in about two months would be like the first beta, then like two weeks the first RC1 and then like the final version.

So, I was trying to make up my mind to think could it be like 3 months or so, or like three weeks or so.

That kinda impression I just wanna make to decide to start the Multisite project, which has minimun about 70 sites to be cloned.

Imagine if the site wide categories to be used at a later date for 70 subsites. Thats why I took this aspect serious.

Hallo!

I just saw that XOOPS 2.2 announcement has a mention of 2.4 being developed.

The version 2.4 would have site-wide catogeries.

This version would be extremely helpful und a powerful feauture.

We would rather wait for this version and use site wide categories, like it is in eGroupware. Preffered would be more complexities of categories databases like geographical, subject dbs, etc.

That tells us to wait. However I cannot find any time schedule of the version 2.4!

Is there any Roadmap for the development of this very much wanted version of 2.4?

Thanks in advance.

Deepak

Hallo Mithrandir!

How wonderful to have you in the CORE Team, apart from your excellent Programming skills.

BTW, I have some questions to you:

1. It would be very helpful, if different subdomains could be pointed to different subsites. For instance,

http://a.germany.de >>> Module News
http://b.germany.de >>> Module mylinks etc.

I plan to implement about 50 - 70 subsites over one installation! That shall be the biggest ever multiwebsites by XOOPS and would be a star project (In German to begin with).

Hence if one types in the Browser - Location, different sites would not only have different themes but also different starting module pages, thereby, defining different homepages for different subsites.

This is currently not possible.

Do you have any tweaks or suggestions? In the second week of August, I plan to start cloning the databases to replicate about 50 - 70 sites. Its a star project.

2. The current Membership Module has failed to work with the installation of 2.2 Xoops. I placed several messages no no help. However they were regarding to earlier versions of Xoops. Now that I shall be using the XOOPS 2.2 in combination with the compitable multisites module, it is important to have a Membership Module working.

For our non-profit Association (similar to Fathers4Justice), it is important to maintain a users database of about 40.000 - 50.000 members on the internet.

Is there any other way to have something similar or compatible with XOOPS 2.2?

Thanks for your cooperation in advance.

Hallo M0nty!

I do not think I made myself clear.

I did not mean the dissimilarity due to database table prefixes but out of physical modules while the physical XOOPS installation remains the same.

For e.g. Forum and piCal has different templates and if physically duplicated one could use templates for different subsites, understand or?

Also the current multisite module DOES NOT offer different start pages for subdomains, or am I mistaken?

Hallo!

I did not understand that part and thats the reason why I was terribly confused.

You are true. The versions above 2.0.9+ did not have any major update or changes in the code, to my understanding, that they will not work with 2.0.13.

But I beleive it is worth to wiat for the multisite version 2.2 and that shall be a NEW ERA for Xoops.

I am really looking forward to it.

Hallo Mithrandir!

Thanks.

Well, I shall have to withdraw from my promise I made to a non-profit organisation, for whom I work for free, in regards to this installation until you finish the new module multisites.

BTW, since you noted about this thread, I have some questions to you:

1. It would be very helpful, if different subdomains could be pointed to different subsites. For instance,

a.germany.de >>> Module News
b.germany.de >>> Module mylinks

etc.

I plan to implement about 70 subsites over one installation! That shall be the biggest ever multiwebsites by XOOPS and would be a star project (In German to begin with).

Hence if one types in the URL of Browser, different sites would not only have different themes but also different starting modules, thereby, defining different homepages for different subsites.

I do not know how complex it would be, but it would generate a WONDERFUL PATTERN of subsites.

2. Module duplication

Is there a possibility to have a module duplication (physical) possibility by a parameter in the master module to be duplicated through the multisite module?

For e.g. I would like to offer AMS (Article Management System) module to each Association in a city with a central user database. When I clone the site, tables would be cloned also.

The reason for this is to have different templates for different modules for different subsites.

Then one can have AMS-Berlin, AMS-Munich, AMS-$table_prefix, etc. Then in the cloning process, it would not only dubplicate the database but also the module with a prefix.

That would mean multisite/multimodule

3. Within what timeframe would you be able to have the multisite module for 2.2?

I must tell the Organisation, since they have some running project going on. There is no hurry in terms of days and weeks but I need to give them a broad idea like it will be out in a month or two months or like that...

I would be very thankful for your answer...

Deepak

Hallo!

I thought it is already developed as there is a multisite version 2.0.10. Thats for you promt help.

BTW, are you using this wonderful module on your website? If yes, then maybe the older one for 2.0.9 or?

Thanks for your reply.
