Hi there, can anyone help me with the following job?

I have a database and search script (php) that I need to incorporate in to my XOOPS site (page wrap isn't enough).

If its possible I would like to incorporate it in to an existing module, specifically smartsection, bcoz I want to use its great features (add comments, spotlight, etc).

I've looked at it myself (a lot!) but my php knowledge doesn't stretch to it

Can anybody help????

Is there any documentation or article out there that explains how to make your own module. Or explaining how a module is constructed.

I have a database with search scripts which is outside of my XOOPS site and so I need to either:

1 write a XOOPS module using the current database.
2 wrap the current search scripts into a XOOPS module.

I think I need an explanation of how modules are constructed before I can attempt it.!!!

Or is it possibble for somebody to explain how I would go about doing the above (maybe solution 2 is easier?????)

Big thanks for any ideas, suggestions or links

Xoops 2.0.16 & Forum 3.08.

By the way I've checked via phpmyadmin and the table bb_forum table also has 0 posts 0 topics for the parent forum

One more bump to see if anyone out their knows the answer.

I can't solve it all - why are forums that have sub forums showing 0 posts & 0 topics when in fact the sub foums have lots of topics??? Its driving me crazy!!!

No idea if its related but a synchronisation gives "error 134 from table handler" and the index admin pages tells me:

Xoops Poll Module: Not available
ImageMagicK: Not available
NetPBM: Not available
GD1 library: Not available
GD2 library: Autodetected:

Any suggestions really welcome, thanks!

I've read the articles on security but I just wanted to check that I've done everything ok before I launch my site.

Hopefully it will serve as a good check list for future users:

So here's what I've done, have I missed anything?

- using the latest XOOPS version
- using the latest versions of modules and have picked ones that appear to be actively maintained
- installed protector
- changed mainfile permissions to 444 (in root folder)
- changed "check for template modidfications" to "NO" (in Preferences Main >> general settings)
- Using an administrator password that's pretty obscure (random letters & numbers)
- htaccess file is in my root folder

Have I missed anything?

And a couple of questions:

1. I saw mention that all folders should have an index file - does this include folders inside my root but not part of the XOOPS system?

2. Do I need to remove my phpMyAdmin? Its in my root folder? Can I move it to a subfolder and keep using it?

Thanks a lot!!!!

Thanks a lot for the replies!

Yeh it seems that inward links are the thing to concentrate on but it just seems weird that as far as I have noticed even on xoops.org all the forum threads have a 0/10 rank!!!

I'd love to know why
