Exactly that blueteen. If Herko has indicated he'll be publishing a report for the last 10 months which has never come about, then it is pretty safe to say that he has for whatever reason not being able to devote enough time to it. Instead of hammering him about it, why not offer to help?

I agree that there should be transparency in the XOOPS foundation, but for all of you who find it so important wouldn't your energies be better spent working toward a solution? I wonder how many of you even attempted to contact Herko offering a helping hand before deciding it was more appropriate to drag his name through the mud? Don't focus on what other people aren't doing as that will almost always result in nothing but negativity and is a total waste of energy. Instead why not take the initiative and take steps to correct the things you see as being a problem. After all, isn't being community driven another vital factor in an open source project being successful?

Hi keebosh,

Did you restart IIS after uncommenting php_mysql.dll? To verify that the MySQL extension is actually loaded you can use the phpinfo function to output your PHP entironment details.

i.e. Place the following code in a file called something like info.php and put it in your XOOPS root directory;

<?php

phpinfo();

?>

Then access this file through a browser to get the details. e.g.http://example.com/info.php

It will totally depend on what modules you are running jimbofoxman. Anything recent will be fine, though I have a friend I'm trying to help now with XOOPS who is using several modules which have not been updated since circa 2004 which are not PHP5 compatible. Seems he faces a difficult upgrade path now as he doesn't want to change modules as that will affect search engine rankings and I've so far been unable to find a developer with time to be able to update these modules for him. Only real way of knowing for sure is if PHP5 compatibility is explicitly listed in the module documentation, or by trying out the module in a testing environment using PHP5.

Thanks for the replies. I'll give XoopsExperts a try. Main reason for upgrading rather than migrating modules is to preserve the URL. Thanks for the Pico tip though pAraN0iD, may have to give that a look.

However, if you are using a shared hosting service (which it sounds like you are), then there is a not a great deal you can do apart from configuring you XOOPS caching options. They are well worth it though.

Why not look at what other projects do? I like the Drupal approach where developers wishing to be listed on the Drupal site as offering commercial services must contribute to the community. This is done either by maintaining a module or contributing code to the core.

70k uniques a month is a decent amount, and I'm not suprised it would be causing PHP load issues on a shared server when configured in CGI. Still, jumping from a $6 a month shared account to $55 a month dedicated server is a fair hit to the back pocket. Although $55 seems like a pretty decent price for a dedicated server to me, if you are at all comfortable with administering your own server I would be looking at something like a VPS before kicking up to a dedicated server.

The protector module aids in reducing the attack footprint for Xoops, so if you site has been attacked at some other level such as web server then it won't be of any help to you. As for your hacked admin screen, try deleting all files in your cache and template_c directories. However, before you do that I would suggest that you get a listing of all files on your site that have been created and/or modified in the last week or so. Apart from you cache, uploads and templates, not a great deal should change file wise on your site.
