Would be good for XOOPS to have something like this:

http://www.moneyscripts.net/drupal-membership-suite

If other XOOPsers are willing to contribute, I would be interested to pursue this further.

Re: Subscription / membership

One of the projects I was working on was to create group based support for subscriptions and such. There have been mentions of people requesting subscriptions and fee's or donation based subscriptions elsewhere on here so a robust setup would be welcomed.

Due to other projects coming up this has been moved to a back burner for me but I am sure others would like to see something.

My intention is to build support for such things into the groups and then from there have modules that actually handle the details.

I believe that support for subscriptions in the core would be the best platform to build off but one step at a time for now.

Yes there is, I would say Third eye, is the only one talking about really, but that is not being supported as far as I can tell. I would take it over, but I am a little confused about the licensing because they charge people to use it. So does that prevent me from taking over the code. I have bought a license to the code before.

If it is GPL, you have the right to modify and to redistribute it, independent if you payed for it or not.

Thanks for that Ghia.

This is what it says in the header:

//  This program is free software; you can redistribute it and/or modify     //
//  it under the terms of the GNU General Public License as published by     //
//  the Free Software Foundation; either version 2 of the License, or        //
//  (at your option) any later version.                                      //

So presumably I can amend it then even though I did pay for it originally ?

Also, has anyone used aMember, apparently they have a plug-in for xoops which integrates with the groups system.

Shiva, did you get the "subscriptions" module to work?

I can't get it to work, and the thirdeye download is the same as the MC download

*BUMP*

Has there been any news on this front?
I'd like to add a subscription side to my XOOPS site:

- Yearly subscription fee
- Subscribers get access to private forums, newsletters, video clips, documents, etc.
- Non-subscribers can still access the public forums

What's the best solution out there for this type of thing?

Cheers,

Re: Subscription / membership

At this point in time not that I am aware of.

I am willing to work on this for 2.5.5 once I am done with the PDO and Install stuff. I am behind on those however so likely will be a couple months out depending on my school load. I will only have time to work on stuff until march when I get loaded up with more classes.

My solution may take until summer to accomplish because I will be modifying the groups system. I will provide it as a hack for 2.5.x and try to get it incorporated into 2.6. I may be too late to get it incorporated into 2.6.0 but hopefully for 2.6.1. I will of course provide a "patch" to work with 2.6.0 but won't be "official" until included. With this it will be a simple matter to add subscriptions but would have to be done manually at first.

So unless something else comes up watch for me to release the PDO class for testing and then a new install program for testing. Once those are done I will begin working on updating the Groups Admin and in the process will be adding some features that will greatly improve the group system. Especially if you need multiple groups.
