I have placed XOOPS on my site and I am trying to put some content on the front page & have a link to another page but I do not see anything of the kind to make another page on the site. Is there a trick to this or do I have to download more files to have another page on my site??

Thanks

If you have just installed XOOPS then yes, you need to download a module or two.

For "pages" I use SmartSection 2.13 fromhttp://wwwsmartfactory.ca/ but there are a few other similar modules.

You can do a lot worse that try the News module from Instant Zero (http://xoops.instant-zero.com/). Whilst you're there, take a look at their Forums and it you like them then download "newbbex".

Alternative forums are available too - like this site, I use CBB 3.08, but GIJOE's site (http://xoops.peak.ne.jp/) has his own "3D Forums".

You should visit GIJOE's site anyway to get his "Protector" module..... it's not a straight-forward installation but a user-guide is available from the site. This module is essential (in my view) as it will protect your site from all sorts of online naughtiness.

Thanks JAV. Is there a place where a step by step tutorial can be found to tell me how to install these modules?? I downloaded the Smartsection module & I notice it is in zip form. I know how to unzip the file, but thats as good as it gets for me. I have Fantastico on my cpanel, but thats all I know.
Thanks again,

Firstly, don't use Fantastico. Use your ftp client (try CuteFTP if you don't have one) to upload modules manually. Far more control this way.

To install a module you:

1. Unzip the download.
2. Upload the module to your XOOPS modules directory
3. Login to your site ad admin, got to the Admin section, run your mouse over the "System" icon and select "Modules" from the pop-up.
4. In the right-hand pane of the next page you will see you "uninstalled" new module. Click on the icon to install it.

Job done

Note:
Many module downloads have to directory (and sub-directories) to be uploaded nested inside other folders. The correct directory to upload is the one with xoops_version.php, index.php and other .php files in it. In the case of SmartSection, the directory is called "smartsection".
