Can't see installed modules in System Admin

My Xoops 2.0.18 site seems to be working fine. It's the first time I've ever done it. I have uploaded a few menu navigation modules (to see which one I liked, then uninstall the others). These are the first modules I have tried to install. But they're not appearing in the System Admin menu, so Xoom isn't seeing them. I checked the file structures on the site and they seem OK to me. What else could be wrong?

Please help, as I was just starting to like Xoom.
Thank you.

In XOOPS, it imperative to have the proper structure and file permissions.

Structure
If you unzip a module archive directly into modules, then it likely doesn't work. The directory structure is:

XOOPS_ROOT/modules/<modulename>

where module name is the name of each module. In each <modulename> directory, you should see a xoops_version.php file. If you don't see that, then neither will your admin area.

File Permissions
This depends upon your system, but some modules don't come with file permissions that match your server's needs. The ones that tend to work for most is 755 for directories and 644 for files, but your mileage may vary. Make sure that directories are executable and files readable for your web service.

If that doesn't get it going, let us know again, and we can try and give you some other pointers. Also, you might try adding a basic content or news module just to make sure.

Hi,

Also some modules require aditional components to run. Example is CBB (forum) module that needs frameworks. You may try to enable PHPDebug mode and look for errors ...

It also may mean that you have a module that is not compatible with your XOOPS version.

When istalling modules better upload them one by one. If there is a problem with one module, it will prevent oters to show and it will be harder to find if you uploaded many modules at once...

Thanks for the advice. I'll remove all the modules and then upload a simple one. I'll check the permissions as suggested. I'll let you know what happens...
Thanks again for the advice.

Re: Can't see installed modules in System Admin

I checked all the server naming conventions and directory structiures and all seems to conform to what you said. I also checked the file permissions and they are corrct too.

But you were right about the clashes. I removed all but one new module from the server and it worked... after a fashion. Other than the system module, I only have the MyMenu module in. Once it was the only one, it burst into life and allows me to add a new menu item - but the new menu item never appears, not even in the MyMenu list of added menu items. I get no error messages, it just blanks the "add menu item" form. Any ideas?

Brenda.

Hi,

I'm not familiar with that module (MyMenu). If you need a menu, you may try iMenu - very simple and easy or MultiMenu - very powerfull, but complex to administer ...

OK, I'm on it. MyMenu goes out, iMenu comes in.
I'll report back. Thanks.

(P.S. I got MyMenu from right here - xoops2-mod_mymenu_v1_4_0_marcel_widmer)

OK, MyMenu was deactivated then uninstalled. Then deleted from the server. iMenu was copied up, all permissions and directories conform as expected.

But it doesn't appear in the modules admin menu.. (sigh)
What am I doing wrong this time?

Hi,

I have installed the latest iMenu I have (2.3RC1) on XOOPS 2.0.18 and it works. Check the path - you should have iMenu folder (with xoops_version.php and some other files and subfolders) uploaded in to modules folder of your XOOPS install.

You may try PHPDebug and look for errors on modules page...

Re: Can't see installed modules in System Admin

Yes, the iMenu folder (with xoops_version.php and some other files and subfolders) is all present and correct in the Modules folder on the server. All permissions are set as advised earlier(see top of post).

Well, I got a bit further...
I tried installing the Counter 2.02 module (got it from the repository, here) and that instaled OK. It appeared in the module list and also in my blocks admin menu, (but only after I had selected "webmasters" as the group! That figures)

But once I have set it to visible, my web page comes out as a blank page.
