Looking for a Picture/Profile database

I am looking to create a database of people with a short profile and a picture. Any advice as to a Module that would work for this? I want it to be browsable by clicking the alphabet - for example clicking on N would list all people with last names beginning with N.

Sort of - that uses the member list to create the directory - I want to manually build the directory myself - with bio's of people.
