im a super beginner and want to learn how to program, i wanted to start with a text based game but dont know where to start. a game i play was made with XOOPS but they started it 10 years ago. am i way over my head here trying to start with XOOPS because it seems more website oriented. i know of people who have used c++ but it's hard to get my hands on a copy. none of the stores around here sell it. what should i do?

Sounds like a great goal.

But maybe a starting point is needed, thats not so high.
not to be mean, but starting with your basics like HTML and PHP will help alot, then you can explore javascript, and flash. then you can advance to biger and better things.

a good place to start would be http://www.w3schools.com

They have Tutors to help you learn you way to your goal.

no that's not mean at all, since im very new at this it's the best advice, i didn't know where to start and i appreciate it a lot

What is required for starting development with PHP:

I use WAMP myself as a server, easy to use and setup
http://www.wampserver.com/en/

You may want to start of using dreamweaver at first as an editor and progress to a dedicated IDE tool for PHP development.

A beginners guide to PHP, very easy to understand and should help you get started.
