Pgv genealogy module hosting questions

I thought this post needed its own thread

Anyhow, the reason I came to the XOOPS forum today and happened along this thread was because we are actually having a XOOPS issue today.

There have been timeouts on one of our shared servers and nothing is "screaming" out to us, except for one site. Here are some captures from the past 3 days:

This site is running XOOPS - it's a family heritage site, has a few modules installed to keep track of family trees.

Why would it be causing such a stir? We keep seeing the particular module /pgv/ancestry.php in the logs and think that may be the culprit... any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Kayla

Hi,

You need to upgrade the XOOPS installation at the following location as

soon as possible.

/home/mydomain/public_html/

The following directory contained hacks:

/home/mydomain/public_html/modules/pgv/index

I think it is wise to upgrade to the latest patch in d.x.o - there was a vulnerability in the base code that was patched at the end of 2005.

I also think there is someone out heavily crawling the pgv sites in hopes of exploiting the vulnerability, or in hopes of finding some unprotected personal information.

I've been searching for any other vulnerabilities in this version, but I have not found any, yet. I am also working on bringing the module up to the latest version of pgv - no small undertaking with the amount of architectural changes in the code.

I am the owner of this site and I am currently waiting for a reply from Kayla regarding this problem. There was a problem with my shared server yesterday but the culprit was another site. When I found out if my site is or is not a problem I will post a reply.
Thanks

spankee, did you do any update or change to your site? The spike in usage stopped the same day on 6-16-2007. No spikes occurred in the past 24 hours at all.

(Thanks for creating this new thread. Hopefully this will help others.)
