If you have registered domains with NicNames, Iomart or Easyspace, check your automated renewal invoices carefully.

When we recently checked the NicNames price list, we were pleased to see that they had reduced their .co.uk domain prices from £23.00 to £9.50. We were surprised therefore to see our 'old' price on a renewal demand. When we queried this, the official response was that we were required to continue to pay the price that we purchased the domain at.

If this happens to you, I recommend giving them a polite reminder about legal obligations to provide goods and services at the published price. NicNames reduced the price of my renewal once I pushed them, but there was no indication that they plan to do this as policy.

NicNames (under direction of Iomart) previously charged an outrageous £49.00 plus VAT to transfer a domain away. This has also been reduced and the fee for this in the current NicNames price list is £15.00. If you get no satisfaction, it would be cheaper to transfer the domain elsewhere.

On a final note, don't wait for the renewal reminder. Our site was suspended 5 days in advance of the official domain renewal date.

So far i've had no problem with my UK-based provider (http://www.3dpixelnet.com) who also offer domain services

£9.5 for how long?

I currently pay about £5 for two years to one and one (see my signature for web link), well it's £1.99 a year.

And they only charge the same fee to transfer domains in.

Looking at their site the .com .net and .org domains are on special at £4.99 a year

2 years. They are not the cheapest.

The only reason I have any domains with them at all is (up to this year) it was was cheaper to renew than pay the £49 transfer fee. As mentioned above, this fee has now changed - at least it has on their price list.
