Hallo!

I have had exchanges with the webmaster and found out the following:

Quote:

We just need XOOPS to release a full version if they want to be listed at opensourceCMS.com. There is a thread on their forums about this. I started it. - *** (webmaster)

Can someone send him officially final versions.

Also, I find it really better to have "Last known good" versions as FULL VERSIONS download on the websites. Now this is not available. I mean 2.2.4 and that confuses people or new comers and not the users.

Thanks

2.0.13.2 is the best known good FULL Version.

2.2.3/2.2.4 are not being continued as stated many times, 2.3 is going to be based on 2.0.x core due to 2.2.3 development not progressing as what was hoped and liked..

so really there is only 1 full version that people should be using and that's 2.0.13.2

2.2.x is for people that really want the new features etc, but i agree this should now be made clear on the downloads pages..

There are two full versions existing with different features and stability/compatibility. The users are left to their choice and decide which one to use.

1. Full version of 2.0.13.2 AND
2. 2.2.3 + 2.2.3>2.2.4 making full 2.2.4 version.

In the release of 2.2.4, it says cleary that this upgrade patch could be merged to the 2.2.3 installation, if installing fully. Also the install folder and install.php is there as well.

Both the versions are continued for the development. Users shall not left alone with a dead-end. Further, both the versions would be having upgrade possibility to the new generation of Xoops. Hence followng update plan has been announced:

2.10.13.2 shall be updated to >>> 2.3 (may be >>> 2.4) AND
2.2.4 shall be updated to >>> 2.4

This brings every installation to a common standard and that will be 2.4, I beleive.

However, for an outsider this does not reflect clearly and I am stating a classic example as to HOW MUCH the XOOPS website shows a chaotic appearence to new comers (not to us).

There is another thread on this that gives more detail.

I agree with Monty's comment, also. For newbies, this is not clear at all. Could we add a one-line comment in the latest download block or something? eg. 'stable' and 'development' versions or something?

but 2.2.3/4 is NOT going to be developed any further.. it is there only because people already have it.. but new people are advised not to use it..

however regarding the original post in this thread, why is XOOPS not listed on opensourcecms, 1 version is available as full download, so why is the non developed dead end version such an issue as to XOOPS being fully withdrawn from the listing? why can't they just list 2.0.13.2.. sorry but i see no reason to list 2.2.3 when it has been discontinued!!

Hi!

You are very correct.

They should have listed atleast one versions as it would be in interest of their own visitiors to list.

When you first hit this website, there is a large banner: "Download the latest version of Xoops!"

It leads you directly to the module repository, section "core".
Then you have the choice between 2.0.x and 2.2 -- Which one would you think of as the latest

If you decide to take 2.2, you find the 2.2.3 Final. Its description:
Quote:

The final release of XOOPS 2.2.3.

Many bugs have been fixed since the first XOOPS 2.2 release. Consult the changelog for details on this.

Note that there are no modules included in this package. Modules are available from the Modules Repository as well as five module packages are available here

There is nothing to read about Do Only use if ... or other restrictions. No hint that you should better use 2.0.x!

When I personally have looked for a new CMS after some trouble with PostNuke, it was not clear to me, that I rather chose 2.0.x than 2.2

So I would suggest, that the admins of this site make it absolutely clear, which version is recommended for the user. Not hidden in articles, posts or comments, but in the description of the downloads.
Then imo it should be no problem at all to get listet at opensourcecms.com again. And it would help newbies a lot.

Herko and the Development team are working together to find a suitable solution and will be addressing the community on this issue shortly.

To clarify: what we're working on is this:

There is really only one solution, but I don't see it as a solution, more an option.

You either package a full version or you don't, if you do we get listed back on an extreamly popular website. if you don't we potentially lose a lot of future members.

With regards to the other issue of which version is recommended, thats also a simply solution, here's the current look

Quote:
Latest versions
XOOPS 2.0.13.2 Full
(released 2005/10/28)

XOOPS 2.0.13.1 to 2.0.13.2 upgrade patch
(released 2005/10/28)

XOOPS 2.2.3 Final
(released 2005/10/30)

XOOPS 2.2.3 Final to 2.2.4 upgrade patch
(released 2006/01/23

To anyone it looks like 2.2.3 should be the chosen one then upgrade to 2.2.4 because thats the highest number.

Why not break this down:

Quote:
Xoops Recommended version:
XOOPS 2.0.13.2 Full
(released 2005/10/28)

XOOPS 2.0.13.1 to 2.0.13.2 upgrade patch
(released 2005/10/28)

Xoops Development version (Not reccomended for production sites):

XOOPS 2.2.3 Final
(released 2005/10/30)

XOOPS 2.2.3 Final to 2.2.4 upgrade patch
(released 2006/01/23

There you go easy, and in the download section, pop in bold red which is recommended and which is not.

Pure and simple
