Cannot connect to database after install

I am getting the generic 'Could not connect to the database server' during the installaion. I have checked and re-checked the username and password I am using, and it is defintely 100% ok, as is the database name and the host.

I am using mySQL 4.1 has anyone else had problems with using this? I know the install docs recommend using 3.23.XX

Check w/ your hositng company on if the MySQL is installed locally or on a remote server.

Someone else was having trouble yesterday. Their database name and Dabase Name were case sensitive. Also, the MySQL was on a remote server, not localhost.

No, all hosted locally, and fine with another (Java-based) app that I have had running from the machine.

Anyone else had problems using mySQL 4.1?

Yep, installed MySQL 3.23.58 and all working fine now.
