Is there a routine for using only one category？

hi, there, I'm new to xoops. I want to use it for my new website. When I look through the code. I found each module has its own category table. I'm wondering if they can use only one category, so that I can show related BBS/article/news.... in one page. Any suggestion is welcome. Thanks.

I notice there is a xlink module, Can that fit my needs? Any one has experience on that？Can anyone show me a link? Many thanks before.
