Why does xoops use a table layout vs css layout

There have been a few threads on this forum regarding css layouts and going tableless. So I wonder why XOOPS has gone with a table layout instead of css?

And how hard is it to go straight css for layout in colums.

Its a recent topic amonst theme developers and some headwya has been made in that areas. DCDezines is one of them, and incama.nl is moving towards that trend as well.

It's new as far as a concept goes to create incredable pages with css. CSS3 will raise that bar even more, so it's best to get on the bandwagon now as opposed to later.

There are many discussions here in the forums, but a thourough search will be needed. Heres one post for starters, hopefully others will jump in, they're much more qualified then I.

Yea I have seen that post and have been working on some ways of making my site (which still is not up yet because I have this need to perfect everything before it is up) a css tableless site.

I think one of my questions or cause of confusion is how things are laid out and controlled thru the XOOPS control panel. I would suppose that someone could just make a page laid out in cms and just include the links for the modules that they want seen or not seen...which is probably they way that I want my setup.

I have so far figured out how to change my headers on a per module basis and how to change the layout of the modules but so far it has been quite a bit of trial and error.

studioC has some nice sites at xoopsfactory.com and hokamp.info Hopefully this weekend I will finally get it all done.

Thanks for the reply!
