Hi, thanks for reading :)

Right now I've sucxesfully installed my XOOPS on one server. Yesterday the webmaster decided to turn of the mysql.

Right now I've founded another hosting. What can I do to move the entire site from location A to location B ?

1) I've uploaede the entire root dir to the new server.

2) Do I have "ONLY" to change the mainfile.php configuration, or there's something else I should do ?

Thanks.

Edit mainfile.php to suit the new environment and import the database from the old site.

Apart from URL, server path and database setttings EVERYTHING is configured in the database.

I think I can't access no more to the old database ;((

Is there a way to rebuild the old site database to the new one ?

some hosting companies do daily backups, so there is no harm in soliciting your former hosting co. my former host offered up too 2 month old backups, almost like a site restore. good luck!

edit: just ask them to email it to you.

hey miccio,

there used to be a backup module available for download, however, i could not find it. so i have uploaded the mod to my site. you can dl it here:http://dcdezines.ca/downloads/backup.zip

once installed chmod main directory "backup" 777 and sub directory "cache" 777

set permissions for admin only and have the block only visible when you (sys admin) login.

point here is you do not have to rely on your host. you can do your own db backup and store locally.

please let me know if you have downloaded as i will only keep it up for a few days.

this module has been very useful for me.

I've downloaded right now. Thanks a lot.

But my problem still remains: I can't access the database no more. I'll mail the webmaster to turn it on again for few days but I think U'll get no answer like I did since today.

Right now, if I'll not be able to restore the database, what are the things I can restore from my site ?

P.S. I'm becoming one day more angry with the webmaster for that unaspected database turn off !!!!

Thanks you all. You're great. XOOPS is great.

Please: tell me another thing.

Where (inside xoops) are stored the single blocks I've created ?

Maybe I can restore these one. I hope ;)

i was under the impression that blocks are stored in the database, when created from admin. someone please correct me if i'm wrong

as for restoring your site, you've pretty much lost everything if you can't get your database from your host. if you can't get a response from them, you'll have to upload your files from your old site to your new host, delete mainfile.php, copy mainfile.dist.php to mainfile.php, and install from scratch

you might also have to delete the files in the cache folder, but i'm not sure

hopefully someone else more familiar with reinstalling will give their advice
