Hi all

Just to let you know that I have just discovered that hostnexus bans xoops. I have no other probs with this host and it has been reasonably good service-way. I have asked in their forums why XOOPS is banned, but no one there would enlighten me. I wonder if anyone here might know why they would determine to not allow xoops?
Cheers

here is where you'll find the proclamation against xoops:

It's not just Xoops, they have banned massive amounts of scripts and more so then the regular host may frown down upon. I take this as an extreme over reaction on their part. Franky, I would never sign up with someone who wishes to exude this much control over their clients with baseless paranoia. If their servers can't handle these scripts, it's them with the problem of administration and such.

Outlawed? What professional service in the world would use such a term? XOOPS is ofered by many many webhosts with open arms and is included with Cpanel, which cost close to a hundred bucks to buy in the first place. If there were (genuine) security issues or other server related concerns, does one not think that XOOPS would not be included in so many packages around the world? I can't fathom why a host would ban, oops, 'outlaw' Xoops.

Uhg, ignorance at it's best...

Just my 2 cents.

I agree entirely, and imagine my consternation when I discovered this situation. They are ok otherwise, though, which is why I signed up for one year so I could take advantage of a package they offered (50 domains + lots of other stuff for just under $200 per year). Now I regret doing this, and I feel quite foolish for taking the bait. My only excuse is that I am a newby so I should treat the whole experience as a learning one, perhaps?
Suggestion: I think that we should have a list of such webhosts on this site so others can have an opportunity of being warned...
Cheers

To quote Michael Jackson on South Park the other night...

"It's just ignorance. Ignorance."

don't know what they're doing with those that run xoops, I only found the policy by accident while talking in their forums about my limited experiences with CMSs I've tried, and one of their moderator pointed it out to me in there. I am also trialling Mambo, Spip, Xaraya and that unspoken one (you know, sounds like XOOPS only it has an e in front of it ) I guess now I feel insecure about it all, to the extent that I am confused about what I should do, the issue was unexpected and unwanted, to say the least.
Oh well ...

This is very strange. As far is I know XOOPS doesn’t drain that much resources. Phpnuke for one, does! So why is XOOPS banned? Maybe there has been 1 bad experience with somebody using XOOPS along with some terrible other scripts and they judge to fast!

And to add fuel to the fire...

I now seem to be getting bunches of virus laden email spam from hostnexus.com. Perhaps they ought to look in the mirror. The problem may be with them.

more likely they are just spoofs. Can't blame them for that although a healthy does of spamassassin may be good for them :)
