Hello,

I'm seeking a CMS that meet several requirements :

MYSQL DB
Python not required
Caching
Complete French localization
Various permissions
Powerful templating
Thought to work with thousands of members
Short URLs

Powerful forums
Links directory
Downloads directory
Both with unlimited subcategories
News with categories, images, comments, RSS feed,
and trackback !

Ability to add/edit/remove fields in the members profile.
Ability to choose a registration form depending on the membership type.
Pending registration (submit membership)

These requirements could be met by plugins or modules, but not by hacks.
That CMS will be hosted as the portal/core to several smaller specialized CMS.

I noticed the TrackBack module, the XML-RPC "drivers" (from MT which I use) and the TrackBack standalone
That interest me MUCH since XOOPS seems to be the only portal thinking of that integration.
I would appreciate a small review on that.

Thx by advance.
eS

MYSQL DB - Check, XOOPS currently only supports MySQL
Python not required - Check, XOOPS is written in PHP and a little JavaScript
Caching - Check, XOOPS uses SMARTY
Complete French localization - Conditional Check, I *think* French is at least translated for the core
Various permissions - Check, XOOPS has usergroups with many settings to access etc.
Powerful templating - Check, XOOPS uses SMARTY
Thought to work with thousands of members - Check, xoops.org has currently 16 thousand registered members
Short URLs - Conditional Check, there is a way to do this. Check the ~200 post thread regarding shortURL's

Powerful forums - Check, currently being expanded
Links directory - Check
Downloads directory - Check, being expanded atm
Both with unlimited subcategories - Check
News with categories, images, comments, RSS feed,
and trackback ! - Conditional Check, what's trackback?

Ability to add/edit/remove fields in the members profile.
Ability to choose a registration form depending on the membership type.
This is a little tricky to do with XOOPS, but I'm told that there are people working on making this a viable option

Pending registration (submit membership) - Registrants can be set to require administrator activation

Hope XOOPS is what you are looking for

Ok nice.

16 thousand registered members

I meant that I want the users admin to be design to manage easily LOTS of users. Imagine a dropdown menu to choose a member in a list of 1000...

TrackBacks were first created for the blog tool MovableType.
When a blogger write an entry related to another entry he saw on another blog he just have to past the TrackBack URL of that entry in a special field of his entry from, and his TrackBack will automatically show up on the other blog.

How is it going on XOOPS dev ?

That would be great, for now I'm a PostNuke user and I base that requirement on pnUserHack.

OK, I don't know anything about trackback, so can't help further with that.

Regarding the registration process, what I know is that some people are working on making it possible to customise it more from within the site administration - but one thing I like about XOOPS is that it is pretty easy to modify to your liking without it being a total rewrite of key functionality, which is tough to re-implement in future core upgrades.

It is of course best if the desired functionality is already there, but having a hack or two CAN be done so that it is not a big task to upgrade.

Check: French is translated for the core and for modules too (I think at least 100 modules). The french XOOPS community is said to be very active too ! You can join us here at Xoops-France and find modules in french there.

Happy Xoopsing!
