Background color on transparent images in news

I have put in some images into my /modules/news/images/topics folder. I have opend them all in The GIMP and they have transparent backgrounds. When they show up on my site in a news article, they have balck and gray backgrounds. I am wondering ow to change this. Is there a way to do it? you can take a look http://www.mbrauchler.com. Thanks.

The backgrounds look transparent when I view your news articles with my browser.

I opened it in IE6 and the images are not transparent.

But they are transparent in Netscape 7.1

I haven't used GIMP before but maybe save them as GIF instead of PNG?

The transparency seems to work in Mozilla Firebird 0.7, but not in IE 6 (Windows). I did a web search, and .png transparency is apparently a known limitation of IE, but there were some workarounds posted.

I never even thought of testing it with another browser. I usually use Firebird. I was suing IE 6. Now my question seems even more stupid! Thanks for the quick answers. Too bad i didn't use my own head! I will try making them gifs. Thanks for the help!!!!

I changed them to gifs and it works great in IE6. thanks for the help! Next time I will dig a lot deeper before wasting anybodys time in here! take care!

Actually, your post was useful. I hadn't been aware that IE had an issue with .png transparency.

Me too I used some PNGs last week and found the file size was too big. So I used JPG instead.
