The default header gifs that some with the news/links/downloads modules need to be changed to fit with my theme. I see where I can change the html in the /modulname/templates/ dir, but it does not have an effect! is there an easier way to do this - seems like it should be part of the theme...

confused.

thanks

Re: changing modules headers

have you updated the module? Otherwise it'll take the precompiled version of the template, i.e. with the old img url.

ahhh thanks... so 'Updating' the module reads the template files off the fielsystem and puts them into the DB, yes? I thought if Preferences->General->"Update module template .html files from themes/your theme/templates directory" was "on" this was not necessary?? it was checked, but changes to those .html files did nothing for me until I hit the Update icon.

Yeah, haven't really got that update from templates directory to work properly, so I always do a module update after a template change.

Don't know if this is still an issue, but there's a far better way of doing this. Instead of changing templates in html and uploading them through ftp, you should duplicate the default template set in XOOPS (go to config-sysadmin-templates) and change your lay-out through the XOOPS web interface. Just edit the duplicated templates you just made. All changes immediately take effect.

PS: Don't forget to set to set your new template set as the new default in general settings.

thanks but editing HTML/smarty code in those textareas reminds me of when I used to use Notepad.exe about 10 years ago, only its even worse because of the tiny window and weird line wrapping. Not much point if you know vi and can edit a file without FTP.

I disagree. Your method isn't very safe.

I believe the safest and fastest way of editing templates is through cloning the default set and editing templates web based.

When you mess up some templates (which happens all too often , you can always fall back to the default template set. You are however editing this default set...

Of course you can do whatever you want. Don't you just love freedom
