Getting an standard forum layout not threaded

Like the topic says, how do i get the forum to be an more traditonal forum rather than an threaded forum like the it is now ?
I played around for the settings, but i whernt able to find anything for this.

Go to systems admin > preferences > general settings and change the comments display mode default to flat. (forums and comments use this setting). This will make the site's default to flat.

Users have to edit their own accounts to set their own default afterwards too. But new users will have the comments and forums flat by default.
