Sure, I will dig into it, it doesn't seem that hard. Especially because I have working code to copy from.

I guess what Kazu said that the devs are still pondering the problem, and looking for good ways to solve/add this. Also, using apache mod_rewrite isn't platform friendly (apache only), so that would not work for all platforms. If you need this feature by december 31st, I think the best way is to look into this yourself.

Okay how is it supposed work and will it be a general solution for all platforms?

I would like more info as our team needs a full page cache by January 1st.

Otherwise we are going to look into solving this problem.

We might be adding this feature in the future versions using Apache mod_rewrite, still on the planning phase, though.

Doesn't the 'module wide cache' feature in the general settings page of the sute preferences in the system admin do this as well? If not, I think the option would be a very good one for sites with many visitors and articles.
