I have had a (veeeeeery slooooooow) XOOPS site running on Lycos without database problems. Had some problems with corrupted pages (just a lot of symbols -> refresh -> half the page, half symbols -> refresh -> symbols again -> refresh -> page loading properly)

can you log in as admin of your site and go to system admin -> preferences -> general settings and turn on php-debug? Then, go to the lost password page and tell us what the error you're getting is...

Since you're on lycos free hosting, I'm not sure if XOOPS will run on that just like that. Free hosting companies tend to close many php modules for server performance reasons.
