Re: need a good gallery module.....

If your host is using CPanel, it is very simple. Just contact the provider and ask them to install the rpm NETPBM and this can be done easily under CPanel. Once it is installed, set the path to /usr/bin/ and you're all set to go!

Click on "Check Conf/Env" if you're using MyAlbumP and see if NetPBM is detected properly.

Lastly i recommend NetPBM for its ease of installation as well as sharp pictures. I have not used ImageMagik so i cannot comment on that.

Hope this helps!

netpbm can be installed if u have the binary files already compiled.. they are available on the sourceforge site i think or type in netpbm into google..

but i don't see the problem with sticking with GD2 as most hosts these days have GD2 installed.. and btw, that's all that's needed.. GD2 is just as functional as netpbm these days and i think works faster than netpbm. the gallery modules don't exactly require all the advanced features of netpbm & imagemagik so a necessity they are not..

some1 mentioned about using netpbm cos it gives better images.. that all depends on the software that uses those image library's.. i use GD2 on my site and it produces images & thumbnails of the exact same quality as netpbm..

Both needs a server support (installation) so it depends on your hosting services, try to ask them if your server supports it ...

Hello, i would recommend MyAlbumP simply because it is a simple yet powerful module. It is bug-free (i think) and works great! Just remember to use NetPBM or ImageMagik to get crisp looking thumbnails.

Although i feel that XCGal and XOOPSGal are good modules, i use MyAlbumP because it allows all users to upload in a general folder. The other 2 modules suit more to allowing users to create their own folder and uploading photos inside IMHO.

I hope this helps in your decision and no matter what you use, they are all great modules. Good luck!
