An associate sent me a note tonight noting the xtotal/xprojects sites are down with the xprojects.co.uk site mentioning a cryptic message about the no more time for support and the demise of xoops. Anyone know if xtotal is gone for good? The site closed message is up but it was my impression this module was popular. I'd just bought a copy a few months ago.

Thanks for any news. BA

Yep, dead.

Nazar has gone to other things (Ruby in rails the last I read)

GDL-Web.com :: Website development.
Xoopslance.com::Freelancing and Projects
thelionsden-arena.net:: Clan/League/Ladder Hosting

You might be able to get McNaz to support the code you paid for by contact through the Panther Software site. But I wouldn't expect any real updates, etc. unless you have a major bug with the code you purchased. Sadly - I wouldn't expect general XOOPS questions supported as McNaz has chosen to 'move on'.

It was the 'demise' of XOOPS message that bothered my friend. We have invested a lot in the technology and he was concerned about the future of Xoops. Thanks for the replies.

Well that part of things isn't true fortunately.

And I'm hopefull that McNaz may allow someone else to take up his good work.

He was a pretty decent chap - I'm sure even if he's moved on to new pastures, he won't forget his previous users?

I couldn't agree more with that suggestion.

All XOOPS modules (AFAIK) are open-source software. Anyone with good PHP coding capabilities is free to take over development and support for a module if they want. It's normal protocol to consult with the original developer, but it's not essential and not always possible if they have moved on to other things.

A lot of people seem keen to have a new version of Xoops, but if some of the PHP-savvy community don't start adopting and upgrading abandoned modules now then I can see problems ahead that a new version will compound rather than solve. There seems little point progressing with the core of a CMS if all you can do with it is admire it's purity of code.

I am putting my thoughts together and will take up a few modules for support through xoopslance.com
GDL-Web.com :: Website development.
Xoopslance.com::Freelancing and Projects
thelionsden-arena.net:: Clan/League/Ladder Hosting

I'm particularly interested in Nazar's modules to start. I had already a deal with him to offer xTotal through my GDL-Web division.

I have to confess I was thinking more on the lines of PHP capable XOOPS users picking up module development as open-source projects and providing support via Xoops.org.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not criticising the promotion of XOOPS based solutions as commercial software packages. It would be encouraging however to see some new talent willing to take on the challenge of upgrading abandoned or outdated modules under the spirit of the GPL.
