Sorry!!!

Missed some variable name changes during merge of wishcraft's patches and had to fix them.

They are now in xNews 1.69 Final.

To upgrade xNews 1.68 Final to xNews 1.69 Final:

Quote:

Copy all folders to xoopsroot

You can overwrite already installed xNews (do not copy files to clones)

Goto xNews-Clone Manager and click on Update...

If you created clones click on Force Upgrade on each clone.

To upgrade xNews 1.68 beta, rc1 etc. to xNews 1.69 Final:

Anybody already figured out how to get social buttons under every news item? You can make them to immediately tweet the newsarticle. Most wordpress sites have it.
It can probably be done in the news templates.

EDIT: It import comments, but Icould not get url rewrite to work. Maybe coz cyrilic letters. Is there option for user to enter url [not to be default and assigned to title]?

1. News module Hack - Headline picture / thumbnail
2. Ajax block for the News module using Jquery

Thanks for continuing development, that's for sure, but please be more carefull, you post here that this was final version. Next time put first to RC or BETA before final release.

I went to your site and saw you are using path-info setting instead of htaccess in preferences...

Did you try both???

I cut and paste some of your texts in my installations and they work fine... titles and topics and article... linking to correct pages...

what version of xoops??? PHP??? are you using...

You are right - but this should have been 1.68 final... I had not tested some patched work and made a mess... Cleaned it up and thought it was best to renumber to Final...
Next back to normal.... :)

Hi, I am not sure what I am doing wrong but I cant seem to get the module to clone. I installed and it works alright except for the cloning. This is my first time of using the clonable news module.

How to set up SEO in xNews and Clones

In xoopsroot/modules/xnews/docs/seo-samples there are two files, these are: modulelevel.htaccess and rootlevel.htaccess

modulelevel.htacess & xNews:
The first one modulelevel.htacess must be copied and renamed in xoopsroot/modules/xnews and renamed to .htaccess
It only contains rules for the installed module without affecting others and no need for code modifications.

Config:
1. Go to site/Admin and xNews(clone)/Preferences
2. Scroll down to SEO Enable and select htaccess from the dropdown
3. Scroll down to SEO Level and select Module Level from dropdown
4. Leave rest as is and submit.

modulelevel.htacess & Clones:
Each clone will have its own docs/seo-samples please use these files for the clone you are adding SEO functionality to.
Config: Instructione are same as above but for the clone.

rootlevel.htaccess:
The second rootlevel.htaccess must be used more carefully because it can overwrite existing .htacess files in xoopsroot so before doing anything checking if existing .htaccess file exists is best. If none the file can be copied and renamed as above.

This is a global .htaccess files and all modules that have SEO enabled funcionality will have to be present in this file.
The file contains samples for a couple of applications that need to be uncommented to be active.

xNews is the only active (uncommented) for other clones you create you will have to modify file with new clone data.
Config Instrucions are same as above except point 3 that is:
3. Scroll down to SEO Level and select Root Level from dropdown

Some sites do not have .htaccess enabled so please see with your ISP.

Path-Info can be used instead and if it is enabled by ISP.
You can use path-info selecting it from the Seo Enable dropdown instead of htaccess.

xNews Cloner
xNews can be cloned to have same functionality for different tasks keeping settings separate.
xNews, Blog, Info etc...
Cloner automatically creates a new directory/forlder with the given name. Internally variables, files will be renamed accordingly to eliminate potential conflicts.

To create a clone goto site/Admin and xNews(clone)/Cloner
Write a name that does not conflict with existing installed and not modules and submit.
Once cloned the clone must be installed from Cloner. So that xNews' central database table will be affected and will keep track of clone for updates and removal.

quick solution:

change line 959 in xnews/class/class.newstory.php pasting the the chunk below over it - carefull its a loooooong line:

Hi!!!
I have upgraded from 1.68 RC1 to 1.68, 1.69 and 1.70.
Maybe this can be other problem, when i click on http://xxx.xxx.xxx/modules/xnews/index.php?storytopic=xxx, where xxx is any topic number created, xnews show only the content of the first topic abailable.
Another minor problem is in the spanish translation, some variables are not defined and the charset encoding.
And one last thing, you can add a check if the adverstimesnt is empty, xnows dont add a extra pair of
?

1. Please try clearing both xoops cache and browser cache...
in yourxoops_data/caches/smarty_compile delete all except index.html

2. oswaldo took care of spanish translation up to 1.68
hope he or someone else will take care of changes...
char encoding???

3. If you are using a wysiwyg editor you must disable line break wich is a new 1.70 feature and probably you will not see because of spanish not being updated but in english version you can will see Enable Line Break selection box at the end of xNews Edit Article or Submit News Page...

Yes, the SEO looks nice!

The question is - how could it be made modular, so other module authors could include it in their modules as well, with only minimum modifications? That would be, of course, very nice!
