Modules: Catads 1.53.4 RC2

The main change is that sub-categories are now correctly grouped in the search screen and search block menus.

The display length of the title and description in listings can now be set as prefs, the selected currency is shown in admin and I have added CSS control for many of the page elements.

Because the CSS has changed a little, remember to clear your browser cache.

I think this is the most useable version up to date, but it is still an RC so please let me know if something doesn't work.

There are no DB changes, so just delete the old 'catads' module folder (make a backup just in case!) and replace it with the new folder. Then log-in, go to 'xoops admin/modules' and update the module. Your existing ads and prefs should be retained. There are a couple of new prefs.

Don't forget to clear the browser cache to ensure the new CSS is used.

The search block is still a wide block, but the template is now easier to customise if you want to show it in a narrow side block.

Sorry hunnuh, if you have sub-categories, the module only displays the sub-category contents when you select it. That's just the way it works I'm afraid.

I will add it to the 'to-do' list for a future version.

Having the ad 'count' displayed against each sub-category is already on the list.

Hi I have tried this out

When generating the templates I have had the following

catads_subcat.html gives

Error: Smarty error: [in db:catads_subcat.html line 1]: syntax error: unclosed tag \{if} (opened line 1). (Smarty_Compiler.class.php, line 317)

catads_list.html gives

Error: Smarty error: [in db:catads_index.html line 61]: syntax error: unclosed tag \{else} (opened line 61). (Smarty_Compiler.class.php, line 317)

These are only noticeable when manually generating the templates in your own list, the default templates in the default list do not report any errors when installin the module.

I am running on a build of 2.4.4 (total fresh instal not upgrade) and the Zetagenesis theme

The Adverts have blank fields/boxes on the righthand side of the advert I guess where the sellers details go

Off to see where the if nesting is getting caught out, as there are 7 each of if and /if in the catads_subcat.html file

Thx for reporting.

I have had a report about this Smarty error before, but I cannot replicate it. One user reported the Smarty compiler was even throwing an error on code that was commented out of the template completely. The code looks fine and all the statements are terminated as far as I can see. It certainly works as intended on 2.0.18, 2.3 and 2.4.4 on my system.

I believe that Smarty compiler v3 includes some changes which depracates some methods. However, Smarty v3 is is designed for PHP 5 exclusively and Xoops 2.4. is designed for PHP 4 and PHP 5.

I will post a question to the core devs to see if anyone may throw some light on it.

Do you mean if you 'clone' the default template set in admin? This was a requirement in older versions of Xoops, but there is no need to do that now unless you want to edit the templates online rather than simply edit the originals and re-upload them (which you can do).

Remove / correct all comments in template files which contain special characters like "é", "á", "ò" and so on and template cloning should work.

I had a similar problem with cloning templates from another modul, where template files contained characters like mentioned above.

No - I did not clone afterwards, but I did the install and then had to generate the templates as I am using an original already cloned set of templates so that I can edit various parts on the fly (especially when at work )

I can then switch between template sets to see the effects.

Anyway - I looked back into the default templates and both the same template files are incomplete as they are when they are manually generated. I was quite surprised that the module install did not throw up an error.

The only reason I poked around is because the advert had the blank boxes and I wondered what I had forgotten to do

Okay over the templates issue.

Still not getting any seller details in the advert, is this a feature yet to be added, or is my setup effecting the display of these features?

These are the elements reffered to as forms in the permissions.

They do not display for me on either default or zetagenesis theme or with standard templates.

Is there a permission somewhere that stops them displaying?

@ Feichtl. Thx for the reminder.

I had actually removed accents from the French comments because my off-line validator didn't like them. I thought I had caught all of them, but you are quite right - in catads_subcat.html please delete:

I have no idea why this should upset some Smarty compilers. Mine doesn't care (I have re-installed the module a dozen times).

The email and post-code form fields are text fields. The country and regions are selected from drop-down menus populated by the install SQL. They should all appear by default.

I have discovered an issue with Xoops form class javascript validator that may allow the drop down menus and DHTML editor textarea to by bypassed even though set as 'required'. I'm still waiting to hear if it is a Xoops bug or not. I posted about it in this thread It might just be a conflict in the module, but when I edit the class, the validation works.

Just thought I'd bring that up in case it's next on your list!

with regards the fields I am talking about

Submitting an advert works fine the various fields are there and are working okay.

When displaying an advert those fields are blank.

Oh hold on a mo, it's my browser, it works in IE but not FireFox

sorry about that - will have to get various plugins etc

Just wanted to note that it's great to see the interest that the community inputs when a developer decides to involve/collaboration/open the doors to users for suggestions, comments and debugging moves faster.

This is the spirit of completely "open source" initiatives. Hope other devs follow the steps of devs like yourself.

Goto bottom of it!

I am running Win 7 64 bit at home, it looks like the Adobe plugins caused this, unistalling active x and flash player enabled me to see those fields

I thought I'd post this to save anyone else the trouble as it's not catads fault

Good news is that on reinstalling flash player they are still there too

Me again, I now don't think it was the adobe plugins, I think it was ABP on firefox, Add Blocker Plus

It had an issue with the ##.ad_sidebar obviously somthing with ad in it is tripping it up, you can work around it by disabling that particular filter or turn ABP off for your particular site - but that will require the user to know about it.

when the page is generated it is tripping up

That is one strict plugin! Once again thanks for identifying the problem and reporting.

I may change that particular class name, but unsurprisingly, the word 'ad' appears quite a lot in Catads.

As you suggest, I'll put a caution about Ad Blocker Plus in the release notes.

If anyone is testing the email notifications, please apply this small code change until I can post the next RC.

I have one more change planned for the final, but to be honest it's not a major change from this RC.

Just dropping it over the last module caused no probs and did update.

Only thing I noticed is PM gif is MP the French Acronym

In catads/images/icon/pm.gif

Maybe there should be two to reflect language choice? but then you'd need PN for German etc......

Hi franck0768. I know some people are using this OK with PHP 5 and Xoops 2.4.4 and it was developed with 2.4.4 as the target.

Unfortunately I have no idea why the module alone would cause a 500 server error and at the moment I don't have a suitable server setup to debug it.

I will take a look, but if you post in the forum perhaps someone will be able to resove the issue sooner.

but I would give you a suggestion which I think is useful in create category, does not add a form "SelectFileImage" for categories.
