We are very proud to announce version 1.1 of the XOOPS Xurl Module.
Changes in this version:
- Security issues have been taken care off
- Added two new blocks
- Added a block allowing your visitors to update their Twitter account right from your website!
- The modules function has now been optimized for use in automatic e.g. forumposts. This way you can have all your forumpost be automatically scanned for URLs and they will be shortened as by your settings in Xurl.
Currently CBB 3.08 is supported. For more information, have a look in our support forum.
- The admin area has been expanded allowing you to view some stastics on shortened URLs

This should give a bit more interest to developers as well as endusers.
Next step is the implementation of QRCode.
Already setup at our website, so give that a try (register first though to access the Xurl menu).

Although that is strange.. We've tested this on three different webservers (version 1.1, XOOPS 2.3 or higher and PHP 5.2.0 or higher that is!) and we didn't have any problems with the config file.
Trabis has already suggested to change this, but I need to speak with him on that again. Losing the config file all together would perhaps eliminate future problems.

Nevertheless, thanks for the suggestions, we will get this right

Yes, I will check that to see where it goes wrong. I've tried it on WAMP also and did not have any problems.
Are you using version 1.1? As version 1.0 has some security issues.
V 1.1 would put the config file in your XOOPS_DATA dir. When updating, it check to see if you have the config in modules/Xurl, it then copies it to your XOOPS_DATA dir and deletes it.
This is what happens at installation :
1. the SQL data needed is set into the config file
2. the config file is stored into your XOOPS_DATA/configs folder
3. you go to the admin section of Xurl and change any detail that is not correct. If you find that the settings are empty when you first visit the admin section, most likely the XOOPS_DATA/configs folder is not writeable, otherwise it should work, there are no special things done.

If you have your XOOPS_DATA dir outside your website root.. having the configfile should be safe.
We are indeed thinking of changing the config file and drop it all together, that's our next step. That would solve your admin rights to the module as well, no one can read the settings.

And it is correct, anonymous users should not get access to the Xurl page, sorry, we should have been clearer about that. For now, set the Xurl page for registered users access only, that should leave out problems. Expect this solved in the next update.

Well the installation troubles have been fixed and also the access for anonymous users has been fixed. QRCode has been implemented.
Finalizing admin section for more control. It is now possible, for specified usergroups, to set the created short url restricted or not. Spam option is being built as well as more statistics options.
Should be ready soon..

Ok folks,

1.2 is available for download.
Due to a security issue in 1.1 (if you had your XOOPS_DATA dir not outside your document root) we went ahead of schedule and released v1.2.
We have one known isse.. a new block for the QRCode must not be shown on the Xurl page. This gives a white page for the Xurl page.

Also, if you have changed your CBB or Xforum or any other posting method to use Xurl, then notice that this has been (due to the security issue) changed also.

Later today all specifics will be posted on our website, including the new forum posting methods.

Enjoy QRCode with this new version along with more statistics and every user that has created URLs can control them as well. (On the Xurl page).

All is also ready for translation. Also thanks to Artsregal for some tips!
