The "article" module is an advanced content management module for Xoops 2.0*, 2.2* and 2.30.

It is ideal for article or knowledge management, meanwhile it is capable to serve as a comprehensive news module or blog system simply by setting corresponding preferences. Some of the features:
multiple category, multiple page, flexible template, fine permission and workflow control, editor/user role separation, full-featured content presentation, customizable edit form, easy-to-clone, etc.

Extra steps for XOOPS 2.2 users before install or update:
1 Copy compiler.includeq.php and compiler.foreachq.php from XOOPS 2.016 /class/smarty/xoops_plugins/ to XOOPS 2.2 /class/smarty/
2 Copy (and overwrite) xoops.js from XOOPS 2.016 /include/ to XOOPS 2.2 /incldue

Import/Export:
The module provides conversion scripts with other XOOPS content module.

I do have the "tag" module installed, but article does seem to have its own or in conjunction with feature as well. There is a tag block for the article module, and the "tag" module has its own block. Did that make any sense lol.

There is a file named readme.template.text, and I believe this is a typo - readme.template.txt would be inline with other readmes.

it really works smoothly after set permissions and sync data!!!
im still searching for any problem i can find if there is any!

the only problems i mentioned:

- in "Extra steps" for XOOPS 2.2 in no.1 both compiler files must copy to "XOOPS 2.2 /class/smarty/plugins" and not "XOOPS 2.2 /class/smarty" so it should be edit like this:

Article is a superb content module. It's so flexible and comprehensive as to be useful in almost any context. It also has some unique features that sets it apart from most other XOOPS content modules.

what is your XOOPS version? 2.0 or 2.2?

it seems you didnt install frameworks 1.10 well
try and check all things.
@phppp:
IMHO a md5 file checker is very needed for all these separate packages.

I mistyped in my previous. The problem is only with my local language although I simply copied it from english language.

EDIT:
I fixed it. I've overlooked 4.4 of readme.txt. My mistake.

i just repack all things needed to install cbb 3.0.8 and article 1.0 final together for persian XOOPS users.
of course english users can download and install.
i installed and tested it on my local and also my running site for 2.0 and 2.2 in persian and english

When I update themes/templates from admin preferences, with debug on, I get a completely messed up homepage; when I turn debug off everything OK again....

to see mysql errors ( they are red) click on "all" link in 2.0.14+ and see "Queries" part
in 2.2 you should turn on mysql debug first.

also write the error you have through install "article" ( when you click on install button)

O, I'm sorry. I'm finding my way in XOOPS better every day a little(!) bit, but with the coding and db stuff 'behind' it I'm having to learn a lot. (Thank "the One" above for open source and community's; especially this one... )

Hai Frankblack,

I checked the db with phpmyadmin. A few tables had some overhead. One was 'in use'. I repaired them yesterday, but nothing happened.
Today I tried again, and now everythings fine!!!

Thnx for your replies. Now I can experiment with this module with a load of futures.....
And thx phppp for your quick work with the import scripts! I'll let you know if it worked.

I have downloaded, unzipped and uploaded the Article 1.0 module to my server. Here is the symptoms and what I did:

1. Uploaded Article 1.0 Module to my server. Got the module from:
http://dev.xoops.org/modules/xfmod/project/showfiles.php?group_id=1304

2. Downloaded the Framework and xoopseditor modules. Unzipped and uploaded to my server.

3. When I go to the XOOPS Admin Panel of my website, all of the uninstalled modules no longer show. I usually have 4-5 uninstalled modules on the server.

4. I removed the Article 1.0, framework and xoopseditor modules from my server.

5. All of uninstalled modules show up in my XOOPS Admin Panel once all traces of the Article 1.0 are gone from the server.

6. Uploaded another module (CatAds) to my server and to see if maybe something was corrupt. CatAds and all my other uninstalled modules show up just fine on my XOOPS Admin Panel.

7. Uploaded a second copy of Article 1.0 and had the same results. All of my uninstalled modules disappeared again....then deleted the Article 1.0 files from my server.

8. Tried uploading another fresh copy of Article 1.0 that was freshly downloaded and upzipped. Again, Article 1.0 and all my other uninstalled modles no longer show in the XOOPS Admin Panel.

9. Removed all Article 1.0 files from my server and all uninstalled modules show up again.

I'm pretty sure with all the testing I did, Article 1.0 module is the problem.

XOOPS 2.0.16
PHP 4.4.4

Any thoughts?

sure you have a problem in installing and/or uploading and i think maybe you use a non english lang?

anyway turn on php debug in the "module administration " page and write the error.
also i suggest you download the package i link bellow to see the structure of "Frameworks" and "xoopseditor"

Was resolved by downloading the latest editors and frameworks and uploading them again.

I've downloaded/installed/palyed with this module and it seems to work fine.
The only thing i'm missing is the breadcrumb (the way it's been implemented in smartsection, for example)

Well, I've played with Article as well.
Did not yet discover all the possibilities I guess, but I'm learning.

I imported my articles from wfsections. Went OK !!
Only thing is this: in all imported articles there is a slash (/) put in front of all quotation marks ("). This messes up the layout of some articles that are in plain old html (color:"#ffffff" becomes color:/"#ffffff/", div align:"center" becomes div align:/"center/"), and conversations (Henry said /"what are those slashes?/").

Second thing is that lay-out does not uses full width of screen. This seems to relate to the width and the breaks of the edit page.

It would be very nice if there was a way around these 2 issues, but for a start I'm satisfied.

One more thing: the [pagebreak] tags don't work? The imported articles are full length with a few [pagebreak]s here and there....

One more one more thing: when importing in article I got a message that the wfsection tables were empty'd.
I don't know for sure what emptying means then, because the wfsection articles are still there.
I'm glad with that, it gives me the time to run the 2 modules together for a while, until all my articles are OK!

Another problem: i cant make an article a little big because he dont show to the users. I can see the article in "preview" but than he disapear when online. The only way to make articles a little big is enable the html tags. The problem doing this is the need to put the tag <br /> in any breakline...
I dont know why, but with html enable i can make big articles...

The permissions in the Article admin seem fairly comprehensive, I haven't tried what you want to do but I have a feeling it is possible. It looks like you can check/uncheck permissions for each category from memory. ;o)

I have a question. In index.php I see each category with a number of articles, number set in admin part, default 4. Is OK but it is imposible to set this number bigger than 10.
I mean even if I set 30, in article/index.php categories will have no more than 10 articles.
What can I do to set a larger number of articles for each category in the main page of article module?

I jsut installed this module as my users are asking for articles to exists in multiple categories. So this appears to fit the bill nicely.

But I am having a problem with the Import from News 1.44. The Script appears to run ok, and it creates all the categories, and articles. But the Article Body text is always empty. The Summary Text is correct, as are all the other fields, just the Article Body Text is missing.

I have about 150 articles. So the thought of having to manually copy and paste between modules is not something I am looking forward to.

Any suggestions???

I experienced the same problems with the module and finally gave up on it.

Two viable alternatives are

1. The WordPress module. Read this article for details about migrating your articles. There may be some problems with transferring categories. I would just set up a new category to migrate the articles to and them assign them to their proper categories afterwards.

2. SmartSection, which allows multiple categories. I am not sure however if it will import articles from the news module.

Sounds to me like a little confusion in the database. You could look into the database to see whether the text body has been imported (browse table art_text). If it has, take a look into the database structure as it should have been produced by the installation of the module (by opening /modules/article/sql/mysql.sql in a text editor) and compare it with the actual table structure you have in your database, and as you can see it in phpMyAdmin, if that's what you use. You may be able to fix the database quite easily, by adapting one or two keys. Don't forget to back up your database before you start messing with it. And ideally, you try out on a local install which is not public nor valuable.

But this is really a support question which should be asked in the corresponding forum, not here as a comment to a news item.

Hello All
I expirience issues with the category list in the "articles" block:

When I use Firefox, it shows the category list, but when I mark one (to show articles from that category only, in the block) - it won't save it .... I edit the block again, and all categories are marked again ....

Now I try IE ... categories field turn into text ... not form field !!!!

Can someone look at his block and confirm ?
At least I'll know it's my instalation or a module bug

I use XOOPS 2.2.4 on linux, php 4.x and musql 4.1.1

Now I'm sure it's a bug, since when I erase a few lines above the problematic area @ /blocks/blocks.article.php IE can see the select-box.
but still the categories select box is not saving values.

I tryed changing the default block value @ xoops_version.php ... so option 5 will be my desired category (19) ... then I looked at the blocks-table in the database ( XXXXX_block_instance ) and saw the "19" is there ( a:3:{i:0;s:4:"time";i:1;s:1:"2";i:2;s:2:"19";} ) ... but again - all categories are there on my first page...
so it even is not connected to the fact that it won't save values ... ohh boy ... what's now ... ?

For 2 weeks I'm running around my tail with this .... PHPPP ... I know you are extremly busy now, but ... I sent it to dev.xoops bug tracker and no answere also there ...
I'm keeping a site offline just because of this small bug

tzvook, you are right. You have to change the code where the select box is defined. I guess a </select> tag is missing, if I remember corect. I have to check again, but I faced the same problem fiew month ago.

Hi. The module is simply wonderful, compliments.
I have, though, more than 140 categories (mains and subs).
The option to publish in more than one cat is good but the submit page looks huge, full of all categories.
It'll be fine to have something to limit, to view as pop-up menu, or to switch off the "Category" field. The "Basic Category" field is fine.

Any body knows if there is, in the meanwhile, the possibility to exclude at all that "Category" field?
