Posted by: CONFIQOn 2006/6/10 13:10:26 7950 reads
Originally from guestmap by frankblack. He adopted from brainerror.net. The differencee between my version and franks that my version force to be register before putting icon on the map. I also fixed some errors on MSIE. This is no project so there is no ChangeLog! Enjoy

Nice development CONFIQ, thanks

I have one question and one proposal:
Q: Can I use another map (back.png) instead the globe? will it continue to work the same way?
P: Is it possible to connect the module with the user db table in order to get the user data automatically?

Great Module, but I see it serving (with a bit tweaking) as a Dynamic Image-Map for anything that needs an Image Map... where site owners/editors can easily add links (with description and so) to the map ...
So it'll need to have links ability and maybe the ability to handle some maps ...

Excellent module. Kudos to frankblack and CONFIQ!

I tried it with a different map image and it works fine. I'd actually like to have links to different pages for specific countries. Not sure if that's possible but it would work nicer into the theme. Anyway, it looks and works great. You guys are terrific.

Could anybody please explain what a "usermap" or "guestmap" is? I have visited brainerror.net as stated in the article but still haven't got an idea what a "usermap" is.

There is a map where you can place a comment at the point where you live.

Great work CONFIQ, I like the idea of restricting to regular users.

I have had one problem reported to me, which I have confirmed. When you change views to "List View" the username is a link that should lead to the member's profile page. It seems to link to XOOPS 2.2x /modules/profile/user.php. I am using 2.0.14 RC1 on my site, so it should link to /user.php directly in the XOOPS root directory.

If I get time I will search for where to modify to fix for my install, but wanted to report it here.

great one for chit-chat, as done http://www.brainerror.net - would be cool to have unmodified version of GuestMap for XOOPS

if used as a user/location map for user, a few suggestions if I may... sorry if someone has already mentioned it:

- have multiple images with additional level of details when one does "zoom in"
- as an icon of the person, have an option to use a thumbnail of user's avatar
- have a configurable option to only allow a user to be displayed on a map depending on the address he/she enters (it can be narrowed down to zip/postal code)

as a side note: have you, guys, seen http://www.clustrmaps.com and http://www.flickrmap.com ? - good source for additional ideas :)

Nice Module

I have 2 questions.

1) How can I adjust the size of the iframe?
2) Can you drag n drop instead of havingthe iframe scroll bars.
3) Does anyone have a background image with borders in it..

I guess that's 3 questions

Thanks
Frank

It's obvious that the current settings are for a XOOPS site with only one menu column (side block left). I figured out how to change the image size on your page.

In the usermap directory /modules/usermap/ it the file styles.css

The first set of comments are

div#guestmap {
position:relative;
background-color: #ddd;
width:720px;
height:470px;
border: solid 1px #ccc;
text-align:left;

That's the settings for the image size on the page. I found that the setting

div#guestmap {
position:relative;
background-color: #ddd;
width:565px;
height:470px;
border: solid 1px #ccc;
text-align:left;

Works perfect for a site with side block left and side block right. It put the image right square in the center of the page between the blocks, without pushing the right block out of the picture (like the original settings do).

Regards
Frank
