Hello,

I am pleased to announce you the birth of a new Xoops module, userpage

What is userpage ?
With userpage, your registred users can create their own page (for example their biography).
Once they have created their page, it can be viewed by other users (and it can be commented too)

Complete features list
- Users can create their own page
- Users can see someone else page and a list of all the pages
- You can activate RSS feeds to list the recent pages
- For each user's page, you have a printable and a Pdf version.
- The module gives you 3 blocks : Last pages, Top viewed pages, Random pages
- The 3 blocks provide you an "on the fly" method so that you can use the blocks as many times as you want
- Users pages can be commented
- In the module's options, you can select if you want to activate Html, RSS feeds (and the text's length), you can also select the date's format and you can select to use kiovi.

Limitations
For this moment users can only create one page

Download and installation
You can download this new Xoops module on my personnal website
Once downloaded and copyed on your website, install it as any other Xoops module.

Support
Use this forum to post your bugs reports and suggestions

Translations
The module is available in french and in english.
If you translate this module in your mother tongue, please send me the translation to herve at frxoops.org

Notes
Redistribution of this module on mirror sites like Sourceforge is not permittted !
The module should runs with Xoops 2.0 and Xoops 2.2 (even if I did not tested this last one)
For this moment, this module is in beta stage, so please don't use it on a production website until it is declared as stable.

no problem occured.

question:
you are one of the core developer of xoops, so is there any chance for use the tip in profile module? ( in the core)
also i have a dream about a testimonial/user rateing system in profile module.

The archive is up to date on my website.
I have removed a duplicate translation in the admin.php translation's file (thank you Giba for the notice) and I have added the german, nederlands, portuguese, romanian and spanish translations.

You can downloads kiovi from dev.xoops.org and install it (just follow the instructions in the zip file) and the module will run with XOOPS 2.0.13)

I can understand your reasons, but doesn't this go against the gpl that states everyone using the code should be free to do what they want with it, importantly redistribute it?

I'm not going to put it up for download anywhere tho

Yes you are true, it's sureley "against" the GPL.
For a time I have think to change the module's licence but the comment will have be that because the core is in GPL, the module can't be licencied
with something else than GPL.

You already know why I wrote this :
1/ I don't want, anymore, to see my work, on the sourceforge repository (wich actually looks like a "dump")
2/ I want to keep a full control on my downloads (particularly in case of security problem)
3/ For me, the repository should only contain the Core's code and nothing else (actually, above all, it's just a way to artificially grow our activity's statistics)
4/ My domain and my site is older than xoops.org, so I don't think that there's a chance to see my site disappearing

I don't want and expect to see everybody to do like me, I just want to see people who will respect my decision.

Fair point Hervet ... I'll be very interested in trying out this module myself (I did try on 2.3 Alpha .. but i've managed to crash my Xampp installation .. )

Anonymous users can't view the existing pages. Is this on purpose?

I gave the anonymous user "Module Access rights" but this still doesn't help. I would like them to be able to see the pages.

Firslty, well done on creating another great module. It ill be very useful for all of my sites.

Mamba is correct with his observation. All anonymous users can do is list the pages but they can't actually read them individually.

Herve, would it be possible to allow the Admin to allow to see the pages by non-registered users? This could be potentially a good selling point to get people registered once they see the pages of others. But it should be an option for the Admin to make that decision. Otherwise I like it a lot.

This could be actually a good starting point for a "MySpace.com" equivalent on XOOPS. Having such a module woul definitely make XOOPS websites more popular.

I'm having a problem with this. Does anyone else experience the same?

After a UserPage is created, then selected via the Pages List from the main menu, a blank reply appears below the original message.

This box (block?) has a Reply button that, when clicked, produces a full white screen. Attempts to delete the blank reply have the same results: a full white screen.

I've removed and reinstalled the module three times to no avail.

Any ideas?

Yes, it will be done

No offence, but shouldn't this vissibility setting be up to the specific registered user him/herself?
I'd prefer: Admin can set overall preference yes/no visible for anonymous users, but the specific registered user can overwrite this admin setting considering his userpage visibility fopr anonymous users.

Shine,

For this moment the module is in beta stage so I don't want to modify or add functionalities.

I'm going to harmonize the access control (by default everything will be visible in the module and you will have to manage the permissions via the XOOPS groups access manager). After this I'm going to release the module as a definitive version (quickly), then I will add the required functionalities (more than one page per user, a way to define what can be view and not etc).

I agree with the the points raised and thanks Herve for agreeing to add them down the line. In my case, I certainly will need to be able to allow anonymous users access for one of my sites, but then for another I will require registered users only to have access. So the built in Admin choice to allow which users can read the articles is a requirement for me and I'm sure for others.

In the meantime, seeing as these enhancements will not be added until later, can I suggest for the official release that when an anonymous user does click on a users page they receive the standard 'Sorry, you don't have permissions to access this area' screen, or a custom message of that sort. As it is at the moment in Beta, the page just appears broke when a user clicks on a user page because it simply loops back to the lists page. If that makes sense?

Hi hervet,

You can download arabic translation of userpage module from here

and i think comments in userpage_index.html file need to modify because comments table display under user page even there are no comment.

I'm not able to post a screen shot, so here's how you can recreate the problem:

1. Create a new UserPage and give it a title.
2. Select UserPage from your site's Main Menu and click the Pages List link.
3. In the window that opens, click the title of the new UserPage you created in Step 1.
4. Underneath your original message, you'll see an empty comments box that has a Reply button on it (also Edit and Delete for admins).
5. Click the Reply/Edit/Delete buttons to see it go boom.

Hope this helps.

If "Have you tryed to actiate comments in other modules ?" includes forums, then yes. Forums work fine.

Thank you for pointing that out.

It appears that the error and file to which you refer is in the statement "Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in <path>/include/comment_reply.php on line 56." If so, you are correct -- the file is not owned by the module.

The fatal error, however, occurs after I click a button which appears on the blank comments box. It's my feeling that the blank comments box shouldn't be there at all.

I believe Mowaffak and I are speaking of the same thing. If I'm wrong, please enlighten me. If anyone else has thoughts on this, please chime in.
