Panther Software Publishing is pleased to announce the release of xasset 0.8 – media edition. This is a simplified xasset version aimed predominantly at selling music related media on your Xoops 2.0.x site. Xasset supports a plugin payment gateway structure and currently supports Paypal for payment processing.

Good to see that the module is free to download as open source and that the price of the pdf manual is £4.99

Hi McD. The actual download contains a detailed winhelp file that has a shed load of screenshots.

The PDF manual is handy if you want to print it out and yes, there is a little charge on it. Shame my mortgage isn't based on the GPL.

I haven't had time to look over this very much. I did go most of the way through the purchase process on your site and will likely complete it after I give it a whirl. Anyway, just wanted you to know the mod seems very interesting. Your site is also nice looking.

I do think a little better description of how the sale process is completed would be helpful (eg. Once the purchase has been made are permissions automatically set up to allow the purchaser to access the download?, etc). I really liked what I saw though. I'll see if I have time to play with it this weekend.

Hi Chappy,

Thanks for the feedback and the suggestions. I’ll add a section on how the ordering works in the 0.81 version, which I am hoping to release shortly.

In brief, the My Downloads section works by hooking into the Order information table. A client will be able to see the purchased (and if downloadable) item there and will be able to download it once the payment gateway indicates a completed payment. No permissions are involved here.

Optionally, an Application Package can be configured to add a user to a specified XOOPS group when the order is completed. This can be used if you wish to sell membership access to premium content, which is controlled via the XOOPS Groups mechanisms.

Hope this explains it better.

Panther Software Publishing is pleased to announce the release of xAsset 0.81.

Change Log:

1. The 0.81 version simplifies the ordering system for anonymous users by automatically creating a new XOOPS user (based on their supplied email address), logging in that user and adding their required application product into their cart.

2. The 0.81 version also includes an updated manual which explains the ordering workflow.

Installation:

Extract the archive over the existing installed files. There are no table changes between version 0.8 and 0.81. Update the module in the System Administration Modules area.

1. Added Order Tracking tab in xAsset admin area to view all orders.
2. Added ability to check table structures and update to latest version.
3. Application Product can be disabled to not display on the shop page via the new enabled check box.
4. Package class reports filesize when downloading.
5. Added Table check script in xAsset admin control panel to update table structures to latest version.
6. Added Support Link in admin control panel.

Installation:

Extract the archive over the existing installed files. Please note that version 0.82 has introduced a table structure change. Once the files have been copied across you must update the module in the Module Administration section. Once updated go to the xAsset control panel and follow the Check Tables link in the control panel header to update all tables.

Help is there a zip copy of the download or is it available at a differnt site. I have not been able to download the file to test. I keep getting a screen with gibberish, then my browser locks up.

Version 0.83

1. Cleaned up xAsset admin menu.
2. Added extra information to the order tracking page. Order items and relevant gateway transactions are now shown against each order.
3. Cleaned up status code logic in order tracking page. Actual meaning of code is now displayed.
4. Added mechanism in order tracking to manually complete any uncomplete order.
5. Updated manual and help file with new features.

Can you please tell me more about this? I am building a site where some content will be available only to members who pay a subscription fee. Will your module help control access? Sorry - I am a hack, not a coder - so I need the "Dummies" explanation!

Hi frogpond.

You can use xAsset to sell an application product (for more info please download xAsset and read the extensive help file in the doc folder) that will add a user to a XOOPS group.

xAsset itself does not control access to areas of your website. You can, however, use the Xoop’s security features for user groups to control access to premium areas of your website.

I have just updated xAsset in the XOOPS Dev Forge.

Changes in 0.84
1. Fixed bug in My Downloads.
2. Added XOOPS 2.2.3 compatibility when using calendar classes. This solution will work for both XOOPS 2.0.x and 2.2.3.

why wasn't this here months ago! lol

I spent so much time hacking apart the old no longer supported or developed MC Subscriptions.

I have one question about XAsset, for subscriptions, if a user pays for 1 month, will the script automaticly cut off access to the protected content to that user? (by changing there group membership i guess).

I have had requests to do this and I am still wondering how to achieve this. I will post here if I have any progress.

I would really like to keep everything consistent, and I am using Authorize.net for my payment gateway via ZenCart.

Is it possible?

Currently there is no support for Authorise.net for xAsset. I am shortly going to start a poll on xasset.co.uk to see which payment modules are the most popular to get an idea which to are to be developed next.
