We have recently translated our Google Search for other CMS's to XOOPS! This is a full featured search engine that is found and in use at Google!

The Add-on features a quick search block that includes searching the WWW as well as the hosted domain. It has advanced search features such as - language, format, occurances, specific domains, and the Googls Safe Search!

and again someone forcing people to register before letting them download. it´s a pity, as the module seems to be nice. but i can´t see the point in registering to a site, which i won´t be using in the future...

And again, nobody is forcing you to do anything at all. If you find spending 30 seconds to register for a site too much effort for a module that you want, then that can't be categorized as anything but lazy.

I don't do it myself, but I think when you have put significant work into a project that it is perfectly reasonable to require registration prior to download. Regardless it is his site, his project, his rules.

isn't this like xoogle?
whats the difference?

xoogle are able to show the results within the XOOPS page and this module search result is shown in a new window

I went through this same tirade of sorts when we started PHPNuke @ IBDeeming over 2 years ago. I don't hate you, you gotta do what you gotta do. My hopes are, we will enjoy this community as much as we have PHPNuke and begin building add-ons that can be used for a long time. Sorry you don't see yourself using the site in the future, that's cool. My hopes are you'll be wrong!

As far as Xoogle goes - haven't got a clue. We're new to XOOPS. I can tell you, the development of our search for PHPNuke was in the guidelines specified by Google. So, if there is a guideline that allows the presentation within the same page as the site, and the content comes from Google, that's great.

I forgot to mention, Catala, Greek and english are included in this module as well.

I went and checked out the Xoogle - this is essentially google tap. It's pretty fat too - not that's a bad thing. This Google that we have is a bit more straight forward, no registration to google, no tap, but gives you search. The other, more important thing it does? Everytime someone searches from your site through a google connection with your domain sent as the "originator" of the search - I can tell you I have witnessed their index spiders hit your site soon after. It's just the way it works. Either way, Xoogle is probably great - haven't loaded yet - and I like our version - straight forward, works immediately, and givew you what you really need - spiders!

That is what I love about these communities - there are so many ways to slice pie - and every one provides a new learning experience!

@brash: i didn´t want to be misunderstood: i appreciate seventhseals work, no matter what laziness you are implying on my side.
but i can´t really understand that contributing a module at the same time means being forced to register at every-man-and-his-dog´s website. it´s nothing more but building artificial communities of people, who login once and then never come back.
sorry, but a free contribution for me comes without any hooks

I'll go ahead and ruffle feathers Brash, I don't owe you anything really. The mod may be the greatest thing since sliced bread.. I mean, I'm a newbie and I can take what Google gives out and put it on my site too.. This isn't earth shaking in any fashion..
What I would like to say here is that, the guy wants you "checking out his mod" because if you use Google on HIS site, HE gets money.. He doesn't get money if you use Google on MY site, clearly HE is trying to let Google pay him for you to use it on HIS site..

Ok... So, why the REGISTERING ? to get Visit count up?.. I mean, how much work did this guy do to create something for us all?...

I can have the SAME mod on my site in a matter of minutes... GOOGLE gives it away and even PAYS you to have it on your site!.. the catch..
PEOPLE HAVE TO USE IT... So, the guy wants us to USE it on his site as we SEE it... and he gets paid??

Sorry if I jumped down your throat a bit last night dilbert166, it was late and you just happened to step on a nerve that really gets to me (not an excuse I know, just a reason). I realise that most people do appreciate the contributions people make, but I find that on occasion this appreciation does not translate to their comments to a point where sometimes I find it offensive (even if I had nothing to do with making the contribution). Your initial post dilbert166 soley focussed on everything that seventhseal DIDN'T do, and showed no level of acknowledgement at all for what he DID do. At the moment the non contributing member to active contributing member ratio here at XOOPS has got to be around 100:1, and this attitude I speak of is exactly the kind of thing that is going to widen that gap even further. Just think, If you had spent time (regardless of amount) on a project that you then offered to a community for free and then got heckled, would you be feeling inspired to make additional contributions? In short it is all about showing common decency towards others, and realising that what they offer they do so of their free will, and are under no obligation at all to do so.

I have no idea what point you are trying to make there really (if there is any ). You are correct in saying you owe me nothing, despite the fact you are using my theme on your site, or the fact I helped you in your thread yesterday. I also don't feel it is a matter of feeling you owe people anything, it is about showing appreciation for efforts other people have put in despite what you may think of it personally, as I just discussed above.

I have no doubt that it is not a hugely taxing task to intergrate a Google search feature into your site, and likewise I also have no doubt that seventhseal did not do this in order to get a fat paycheck from Google. Fact is most people want to see a mod in action before downloading and installing it on their own site, and requiring registration for download is not that uncommon. Their is either no point in your argument, or you are a touch paranoid. Eitherway I don't think ANYONE should be commenting on seventhseals motives for posting his mod apart from seventhseal. Sorry for getting of the track here anyway

Hold on there 7thseal, let me get this straight.

Xoogle = No spiders ?
Google Search for XOOPS = Spiders ?

and also using your modules i can earn $$$ from google? is that true?

I am starting to get interested.

I would be nice if the results can be shown within the site like XOOPS search function..

also i hope there is a choice in the admin to disbable search www and only search wihin the site.

are u still going to develop this module or this is the final release and never again be develop ?
