Hey Everyone,

I finally moved my site .EclipseMagazine.com from PN to Xoops.

I did lose all my forum posts, which where about 10,000 posts, and all my community reviews, which was only about 20 - I'm coming to the conclusion that most people don't really want to post reviews, or articles, just come and read and leave (mooch - grrrrr). At least my users anyway, as I average about 600,000 hits a month to the site, yet very few will respond to a column.

It looks very nice.
As you know, this is a general user behaviour. If you give them something that they like, yhey drink it to the last drop!! But when they are asked to give something (like writing a comment or clicking on an affiliate banner) they don't even move a finger!
This really drives me crazy too.

Cool site Mal, you have different images for news topics.. how'd ya do that? Doesn't each news category use only a single image per category?
wow I was like, is this XOOPS or PN? seems like you did alot of modifications to core code.. if I do that, I keep a copy of the file as OLD.. ie. user.php.old so when updates come out I know which files I might need to tweak if I have to replace them. Are you doing something similar? How can I post news articles using any image I choose that correlates with the story?

It's pretty simple in Xoops. In PN, I had to really hack the them to get it to do what I want. In Xoops, just turn off the topic image when you post news. All the images that I use are simply graphic files that display from my HD using the <img> tag.

The upgrade was pretty messy earlier this week, I had someone upgrade my site and it didn't go as smoothly as I would have liked it to. If you want the person's email, then I'd be more than happy to email it to you.

When migrating from PN, there are trade offs, as I said, I lost my old forums - which was painful, but had to be done eventually, as the system was stoping me from upgrading to anything, and the forum db was too large to backup and restore through PHPmyadmin.

I also lost my reviews, and a word of warning when migrating from PN to Xoops, all your old articles won't be in proper categories, as there is no category option, so I had to spend 3 days re categorizing 300 articles (I'm glad I never uploaded the 2,000 articles I have in HTML formatted archives). So before Migrating, I would make sure your articles are not in the categories and are at the PN Topic Level.

Also there's some weird date incompatibility problem between PN and Xoops, so all my old articles are dated December 1970.

And yes, I do still have my old PN Site live and active, I'm just using a redirect function to redirect users to the new site. When the official PN upgrade script is released, I may go back and try and get the forums.

hmm..the image failed..
whats the call you're using from your HD..in my case, I'd call it from my server.. right?
dang Mal, you went from Dev to 'just popping in'.. harsh deal in Xoopsland. So you're writing docs now? cool.
