Could not instantiate mail function. xoops 2.5.6

Started getting the message Could not instantiate mail function when I tried to send mail to users from admin panel. Discovered that new users are not getting their activation emails. I don't even know where to start.

I tried all the other mail methods. When I use SMTP auth, it says:

The following From address failed: noreply@templeofthejediforce.org
Could not send mail to admin.

Noreply@templeofthejediforce.org is a valid email.

Any suggestions?

Can you check with your host if there were any changes on the Server, e.g. PHP version upgrade?

Have you made any changes to your XOOPS installation lately?

I would also recommend to install a test site on your server with XOOPS 2.5.8 and see if you still have the some problems there...

It appears I was running PHP 5.2. I'm changing to 5.4 now then I'll test again.

And no, I haven made any changes to the site or the hosting for months. It just suddenly quit working.

Those things don't happen without a cause!

Maybe your Host did change something on the server without telling you about it?

Or you've made some changes in the past, but didn't realize the impact on the email till now?
