1) unfortunately, xNews is not maintained anymore by the developer

2) is it happening only in xNews?

3) Did you update recently to XOOPS 2.5.6? If yes, you need to run the "Upgrade" - copy the folder /upgrade to you XOOPS installation, and then run it.
