Some modules I would like to see
As a heavy user of Xoops, here are some modules I would like to see developed or changed
1) Tag Cloud - I can't get Xoops Tags to make the revolving cloud like on the Xoops site. Also, I think it should be optional to show a tag in any post. I tried it out and when I put a tag into something, the tag list shows at the top of the item, right under the heading. It would be nice if it didn't show at all or at least at the bottom of the item.
2) RSS Feeder - an RSS feeder would be nice to pick up feeds from other sites and show the headlines randomly in a block. Clicking on a link would take the user to the item within Xoops not to the originating site.
3) RSS SEND - the ability for admin to send any item in any module to an RSS feed generated by the site. FOr example, I write an article, click on "send to RSS" and it is automatically added to my specific, predefined xml file. Useful for sending content to my/any android apps using xml as a feed for content.
4) Bookings module - for conference rooms, hotels, etc. Ability to set dates of availability and take reservations from users. interface with excal would be great. XBookings had potential but the front end doesn't work
5) Auctions - now that we have Adslight, we should also have this
6) Sitemap - is there one that work with 2.5.6?
7) dating and relationships - would be nice. Wishcrafts escorts module never worked
8) Library = books, cd's, dvd's, etc. generate an inventory and allow people to borrow them. An extension of that can be for equipment rentals.
9) course manager - see
http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/living/education-a-culture/courses/8141but the schedule must be able to fit the student, not the student fit the schedule. interface with excal would be nice
10) genealogy module
11) Weather - users can specify their location and they will see the current/forecasted weather in a block on your website. see HTC Home
12) Mobile Display - define a mobile template for your website. it will automatically detect a tablet or smartphone and use this template. all data from all modules should be displayed.
13) Games - maybe something with smallworld. all social networks have GAMES!!!
That's all for now. If I think of anything else I'll let you know. I expect to see the first beta's of these modules by next Friday
