ok, I"ve decided to upgrade one of my websites. I've always been afraid of losing stuff, which is why I don't do it often. And in fact, I have lost stuff and had to spend hours fixing stuff after an upgrade.

This is my current configuration:

XOOPS Version XOOPS 2.4.3
PHP Version 5.2.14
mySQL Version 5.0.77-log
Server API apache2handler
OS Linux

MODULES:

Happy Linux Framework 1.5
AM Contact 0.08
Articles 2
Extcal 2.22
myDownloads 1.5 Herve Thouzard
CBB 3.08
xforms 1.0
Polls 1.3
Random Quotes 1.0
Video Tube 1.86
Web Links 1.95
XCGallery 2.03
Smartobject Framework 1.0.1
Smartfaq 1.08
Articles 2.51 Final
MRBS 1.41
Dummy 0.1 (7 copies)
Job Listings 4.3
Hotel 1.01

myDownloads I want ot replace with TDMDownloads, so if I lose something there it's ok. I'm going to redo it anyway.

Hotel is not active. I'm waiting for it to be finished

THEME:
exnews 2

So, what problems will I have to update it? I want to anticipate and be ready for any problems.

TIA!

Re: Upgrade Questions 2.4.3 to 2.5.5

You may be OK with all of those modules or have slight issues. The only way to know for sure is to try them on another server and see what happens. I suspect the Smart Objects module may not work anymore and modules dependent on it may not work any longer either. ALthough I thought I saw someone had SmartFAQ running on their system.

2.5.6 is about to be released as Final so you may want to wait for that since it will be the latest and greatest for a live server. (About to be as in any moment... )

But I would strongly suggest moving a copy of your site to a local server and trying the conversion there.

As always I suggest you disable all modules before upgrading xoops so you can verify the new version of xoops is working with your theme then turn modules on one at a time and verify they work OK before going to the next one. This will save you many hours of trying to figure it out otherwise.

I don't know of any pressing issues otherwise with any of the modules you list but I am not familiar with all of them. I just seem to recall the SmartObjects one no longer works but I could be wrong even with that.

Note that 2.5.6 has some bug and security fixes and is tested to run in one of the latest versions of PHP in which 2.5.5 won't.

ok, I'll wait for 2.5.6 but I hope that smart faq can work because it's an integral part of the site

Just try smartfaq on the beta 2.5.6.

Since I plan to do this anyway, if I get to it before you, I will relay the results.

There is a file to upgrade 2.4.5 to 2.5.5 in sourceforge, but what about 2.4.3 to 2.5.5?

Do i upgrade 2.4.3 to 2.4.5 and then 2.4.5 to 2.5.5?
