I've just migrated my site to new hosting and since moving I have had problems with server errors/google crawl errors on the module which is the same code as was running on the old site.

problems seem to be related to pdf creation and print in newbb..

http://www.colournation.com/modules/newbb/print.php?form=1&topic_id=3155
http://www.colournation.com/modules/newbb/rss.php?f=10

Any ideas to trouble shoot?
permissions?
php versions needed etc

I can't reproduce the errors you mention. When on your site pdf and print creation seem to work ok!

The RSS error is only with two empty forums on your board, the other forums RSS works ok. I guess the other two work as soon as posts are in the forum.

Are you sure it is newbb version 4.0 you are using? The newest version 4.3 has some problems fixed. There are two branches, I prefer this one

In case you still have problems: please mention the version php you are using!

I personally prefer the Alfred branch. Now we have to wait for Irmtfan telling his one is superior

(I have tested both branches and did not run into problems when updating the same installation with another branch.... But keep a good backup at hand!)

Irmftan's branch is basically Alfred's branch with several bug fixes.

But we need to merge those two, as it might create too much confusion. I did talk about it with Alfred, and hopefully he'll find soon some time to do the merge.

I thought it was until I updated a public site using the Irmtfan branche a couple of weeks ago. Some lay-out issues popped up, like replacing my buttons by automatically generated ones, the forum layout was totally out of tune... I was glad the problems went away after reverting to Alfred's branch

And I agree with you Mamba. Both Alfred and Irmtfan are great programmers, let them cooperate to make newbb a better module!

@ukandrewf :
your link is outdated SVN.
the true link is this:

I think it is one of the few features i add because many people want to have css3 button rather than image buttons.

I made css3 buttons default but everybody can simply back to the image buttons. there are clear instructions in newbb/docs/readme.txt
if you need image buttons you can go to newbb/include/display.php and comment those lines.
$displayText['p_delete'] =
$displayText['p_reply'] =
$displayText['p_quote'] =
$displayText['p_edit'] =
$displayText['p_report'] =

$displayText['t_new'] =
$displayText['t_poll'] =
$displayText['t_qr'] =
$displayText['t_qr_expand'] =
$displayText['t_reply'] =

//$displayText['online'] =
//$displayText['offline'] =

//$displayText['new_subforum'] =

$displayText['p_bann'] =

other than these buttons i didnt change the layout. I even release the full div template set with different folder name "templates_fulldiv_opacity"

Also you should clear caches after upgrade in xoops -> admin -> system -> maintenance.

I would be glad to hear your other layout issues with irmtfan branch.

Irmftan's branch is basically Alfred's branch with several bug fixes.

they are more than several and most of them are come from 3 or 4 years ago. I think at least 100 bugs are fixed and 10 of them are really serious. sooner or later all of them must be fixed in any other branches.
I hope Alfred could review them.

I'm sure this has now been fixed but my biggest issue was with anonymous posts to the forum. (perhaps registered only is best)?

When anonymously posting the forum comes up asking for Name/Email.

as herehttp://www.colournation.com/modules/newbb/newtopic.php?forum=5

if they enter an email address a) it messes up the width of the forum and b) the email address is shown in plain text - causing spam to poster.

like this
http://www.colournation.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?forum=1&post_id=11802#forumpost11802

I put a G_ to try to disguise the email address but as you can see it also appears unprotected.

Andrew

huum. then what is the final solution?
Nowadays robots are very smart and can find email addresses even in images. (If we change the text email to image)

What other forums like Vbulletine did for this? we can follow.
