I am using xld0 news syndication module with the headlines block on the front page. When a user goes to access the page, there is a looonnnnggg wait from the time the user clicks on the page before the page is served to them. This is because the headlines block appears to want to update its content before it releases the page to the user. This appears to be a function of cache time set in the block. It is so bad I had to temporarily remove it from the page (which also removed the wait problem). Even when setting the blocks cache to update only once per day, the delay would still be encountered at different times during the daywide interval. Can the cache update process be cronned externally somehow so the user doesn't have to initiate it and wait? That would help alot.
