My menus display the items on the same line

My main menu and user menu display the menu items on the same line word wrapping at the width of the block. Like this -

Main Menu
Home User Profile

User Menu
Administration Menu
View Account Edit
Account Notifications
Inbox Logout


I'd like my menu items to display underneath each other.

Main Menu
Home
User
Profile

User Menu
Administration Menu
View Account
Edit Account

I don't know if this is possible or how to do it.

Add in styles

#usermenu a, #mainmenu a {display: block;}
