Hello,
I guess it is a good idea to implement new PM notification by email in XOOPS 2.5.0 version.

Additionally there could be a voice and icon change notification with Ajax without loading the page.

For example in your theme there will be an empty message box icon and Ajax component. If a new PM arrived, this Ajax component generates a sound and changes the icon to message box with exclamation mark without reloading the page.

I don't know well Ajax but I guess this is possible with Ajax. It is good to see this feature in 2.5.0 also.

i thought this has been integrate long time ago in 2.3 series...

i was wrong maybe

there is a hack b4 this
