Problem with greek characters

I just started to use XOOPS and i'm excited !
But i have problem with greek characters . They are not showing properly when i change or enter something in Greek .
The encoding of the database was in latin_swedish_ci i think and it was showing only latin characters . I changed this to utf8_general_ci as i read somewhere but the problem exists .
any idea please ?
