Hi there

I'm looking to implement an external search feature (hopefully within my XOOPS site). It must spider and index a list of external websites (numbering a few hundred to a few thousand) for keyword searching.

I've been checking out the open source possibilities and focused on Apache Lucene, Nuch, Solr. Does anyone have any experience of them would they do the job?

And how customisable are they? I want to be able to search and index only according to what is in the page title, meta-description and

tags - don't want to index the rest of the pages' content. But I can't tell if I can tailor the open-source search engines in this way.

Can anyone tell me if this can be done and if I'm on the right track with lucene etc?

Thanks a lot!
