Problem with MIME type

I just tried to upload a jpg avatar to my Xoops, & got the following error:

Errors Returned While Uploading
Unknown filetype rejected
MIME type not allowed: application/octet-stream

Can someone help me with this, this file type is an accepted MIME type on my site server, I just double checked.
