How do I add fields into the registration program?

How do I customize the registration field to have the additional fields that we would like to have about our parents?

Such as 'child's name' and graduation year.

Or is this better done through a module add-on?

XOOPS 2.0.x does not handle custom profile fields easily, you have to "hack" it to do that.

You'll need knowledge of php and MySQL to make this change.
