I noticed on this site when you click on the thread title (on Recent topics block) on the homepage you get in your browser below like a little countdown of 'items remaining' this site the speed is good and the countdown is roughly around the 40 mark, on my site it's on the 270 mark and takes considerably more time, could someone tell me what my problem is and how i can speed things up, many thanks in advance.

Try visiting http://www.websiteoptimization.com/services/analyze/index.html and pasting your url into their analyzer. It will tell you what objects are on your page and give you some basic tips to reduce your page weight and increase its speed. Most likely, you have a graphic or image intensive page.
