Hi there

We used to have a public forum but had to close it down due to spam messages. The spam wasent made by other users but was from some sort of bots. How can we prevent this cause we really want oure public forum back ???

The link to out Webpage are http://www.huntthemdown.dk and we are running XOOPS 2.0

Hope someone can help.

Hi,

Which Forums were you using?

Which version of XOOPS - 2.0.16? (your post said "xoops 2.0")

There are a few things that you can do, most important of which are:

1. Tie the posting rights down, i.e. no anonymous posts/comments

2. Install the "Protector" module. Current version is 3.02 and is available from GIJOE's site.

3. If things get really bad, switch to "Admin Activation" for new accounts - this might not be practical if you have lots of new registrations each day.

I'd suggest doing 1. immediately, and 2. straight after. Both are essential in my view.

Installation of Protector 3 is not as straight-forward as other modules but there's an excellent "How to..." guide available which you'll find if you search (or someone will direct you to).

MadFish's excellent Installation Guide for Protector 3.02 is available here.

If you value your site then, IMH(umble)O, you should install Protector 3.02 regardless of whether or not you reactivate your public forums.
