Greetings,

I've been going around in circles trying to get forums going on my site. For the past few days I've been 'messing' with the forums module with the latest XOOPS version. I tried the basic forum module that came with it. Everytime I tried to add a category I would get the 'Page can not be displayed' and suggestions I check my securities settings in the browser tools menu. I've done all that. I've done upteen internet and support forum searches and I still get the 'Page can not be displayed' message every single time. Thinking that perhaps if I used the module the support forums here use, I uploaded that to the site. No problems there. I even got it installed and the neat little icon and everthing in my control panel. It even came with a premade test category and test forum. However, any attempt to edit them etc..or even add new ones are met with the same 'Page can not be displayed message'. I've even gone so far as to make sure I have the latest IE now. The older version didn't work, and the newer version does the same thing. Every other module works just fine! What am I doing wrong? I'm getting so frustrated I'm ready to just toss my monitor through the window! Please...help me!

Why don't you give us your web address ... and so we can see what you have so far. Many people on here will give it their best shot, including me... I am a newbie too, so all I might be able to do is help you throw your monitor out the window.

(just kidding' someone will come in and save the monitor, and your day)

Greetings,

The site addy ishttp://birdkeepers.darkstargamers.com/ Its not fleshed out or anything since I've been spending most my time trying to get the forums the way I want them. As I said in my first post, the module came with a premade 'test' category and 'test' forume. I can edit as a user from the site..but I can not seem to add any new categories or forums or anything else besides that so far. Any help would be appreciated.

I keep seeing "//" (after the .com) ... That doesn't look right to me, mine only has one. I could be wrong, (probably am) because this programing language does things differently than I am used to seeing.

Come to think about it I have seen the // slashes on a XOOPS site in connection with image links... so it is probably ok...

Greetings,

Yeah, I see the // too now. However..I can navigate the site fine...cept for the forums, of course. Just discovered that trying to add any new news is giving me the same 'Page can not be displayed' message now :( I just can not figure out why it is doing that. It only seems to be happening with that sort of thing. This is really driving me nuts, lol. I'm gonna get this working if it kills me :P It's prolly some little setting somewhere I have missed. I just do not know what I am looking for etc. Thanks for answering my post, though :)

what is your XOOPS_URL defined in mainfile.php?
it should be like this:
// Example: define('XOOPS_URL', 'http://www.birdkeepers.darkstargamers.com');

i suggest adding 'www' and remove an exceed '/' at the end

Greetings irmtfan,

I looked into the mainfile.php and it had: define('XOOPS_URL', 'http://birdkeepers.darkstargamers.com/'); and not what you suggested. I have tried what you suggested to no avail so far. Are there any other steps I should take when making such a change? Even the smallest missed step could cause a problem, I am sure. Let me know. Thankies.

This statement has me confused.

The latest XOOPS version is 2.0.16 and can be downloaded from the homepage of this site. IIRC, there have been no modules included with the download since v2.0.14.

What is the Forums module you are using? There are several that work well with XOOPS 2.0.16, including cbb 3.08 and newbbex. I would recommend you using a current forums module.

Your site is currently unavailable, with or without the www

Greetings JAVesey,

Yes, I know what the latest version is. I've already got it. I'm not sure why my statement confuses you. I'm simply having a problem with IE giving me a 'page can not be displayed' message whenever I try to add/edit a category, forums, and news. As I said in my first message, I got the same forum model (CBB 3.0.8) the Xoop.org site uses right here when I first encountered the problem with the standard forum module that came with the XOOPS version.

Also, I checked my site just by going to it and it is still there. I didn't even log in. I do not have the site turned off, so I am unsure why you couldn't get to it :(.
